Myself and my wife were staying here starting off our honeymoon. Staff were very friendly when we arrived and had very good english as our italian isn't up to much! Our room was grand with a lovely view of the square in front of the hotel. The hotel is very clean and well kept throughout. The breakfast buffet is excellent...

This was our 3rd visit to the GHM, each time staying for a week. We have visited Florence on earlier occasions but since finding the GHM, we don't stay anywhere else. The hotel is ideally situated in a convenient yet peaceful location. It is beautifully mantained & everything always looks immaculate & tasteful. Breakfast is a great meal to set...

Stayed here with my family (2 adults and two early teens) for a couple of nights during early July. The hotel is very centrally located, on the beautiful Santa Maria Novella square, which is only a few minutes walk from the designer shops, the Ponte Vecchio and all the main tourist attractions. It's also just around the corner from the...

I stayed at the hotel for three nights with my mother, husband and adult son. The rooms were well-appointed, clean and modern, quiet, well-located, with air-conditioning, complimentary coffee/tea, and comfortable beds. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the staff helpful. The hotel also has a roof-top pool and bar, which provides a fabulous panoramic view of Florence. Our only problem...

Stayed in this hotel for a weekend to visit Florence. This hotel has a fantastic location, only about 7 minutes to the Duomo and yet very quiet. If you are arriving in Florence by train it is only three minutes walk from the station. The bufet breakfast selection was. one of the best I have ever seen (comparable to Hotel Josef in Prague...

Although the hotel is pricey it is in an excellent location on the piazza novella (corner of piazza stazione and piazza dell unita...a common corner to catch tours! The guides show up with umbrella's or scarfs on poles to identify their group). The staff is excellent....in particular daytime front desk attendant "martin"...he was on staff there as of June 2009....

The Minerva is just a walk from the train station. It faces a large plaza so it is easy to see. Everyone on the staff were very nice. The lobby bartender was outstanding in the service he provided.

I loved our room -- very well decorated, very comfortable. And the pool on the roof was the best. My only complaint was the thin walls! Maybe it's because we were in a room with a door that adjoined the next room, but we could hear everything -- when the came in at 2 a.m., and when their alarm rang...

The staff were really nice and helpful, we booked our Uffizi and Accademia tickets with them. The room was very comfortable, and large enough but the bathroom was a little small but extremely well equipped with everything. The location was great for close proximity to the train station, altho a little hard to get to - come out the main...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
