After a year sabatical in Bardi, Italy, I treated myself to a four day stay in Florence before heading back to America.. I've always loved Florence best and this was my way to say "good bye" to Italy for me. I arrived without any reservations on a holiday. A different hotel I knew of had no room, but called around...

We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Principe. the hotel feels exactly like what a hotel in Florence shoud, beautiful and old. the room we had was fairly small and nothing too special but the terrace overlooking the Arne with panoramic views of Florence brought the three star room to five stars without a doubt, i will always remember sittin...

We arrived after a long and delayed flight to the hotel. They were welcoming and found us an open restuarant around the corner. Its in a building from the 1800's owned by private families who will tell you the history if coaxed. It is old and lovely with all the modern amenities. Our room had a beautiful tiled bathroom and...

I travelled with my 18-year old daughter to Italy and Florence was our first stop. We arrived at the Principe tired and exhausted. The gentleman at the front desk was friendly and welcoming and showed us to our room which was on the back side of the hotel, overlooking the garden, but also overlooking homes and backyards of the residents....

My daughters and I spent a wonderful week in this beautiful Hotel. The staff were always friendly and very helpful. The hotel had a real family feel to it, and the breakfasts really set you up for the day. All the sites of Florence were very accessable, without feeling to close to all the hustle and bustle. There were really...

Our family (two parents and two college-aged children) just returned from a trip to Italy. Our daughter finished a semester studying in Florence and we met her there to begin our trip. We stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Principe where we were greeted warmly and made to feel at home right away. Our rooms were lovely - one overlooking...

I recently spent some time in Florence on a vacation with friends. We stayed at Hotel Principe, as my good friend spends a lot of time in Italy on business and has always raved about this hotel. Needless to say , I was not at all disappointed. Not only was the staff and family absolutely charming and professional, but they...

I stayed there for three days out of my thirteen day travel of Italy, and this was by far the most amazing service and hospitality I experienced. I originally chose this hotel because it was closest to the American Counselate, and I was in a situation with a temporarily-lost family member. I am so glad It happened to be the...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
