I really love this hotel. This was my second stay in the Hoel Principe. I love its calm and cozy ambience. The room was spacy and decorated in a traditional and comfortable way where I could see the Arno river. We enjoyed breakfasts in the garden and also had a great time on the roof top terrace where we could... More

Hotel is good for family, spacious room for two children (10 & 13 years old). I didn't get a room facing the river better to ask for it. It is a family hotel and they parking space for free. It wasn't near the attraction but walking distance to the sightseeing 15 minutes. They have a good trace on the roof... More

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. I'm happy we chose this hotel. The room was on top floor with a big balcony to the river side. It just happens to be the best view from any hotel. All the good places are close by. The hotel is built in 1860 and decorated very nice. On the backyard is... More

We stayed at this hotel for one night on the 6th July, it was the second stop on our tour of Tuscany. We initially chose this hotel mainly because of location and the added bonus of car parking but I have to say we were delighted with our choice of accommodation. On arrival we were greeted warmly and shown to... More

I booked this place for a night in Florence whilst on holiday for 3 weeks in Italy. I have to say we were disapponted especially given the £163 price tag (we paid a bit extra for a view which was lovely). The hotel is tired, dated and feels unloved and underused. The room, whilst large and functional smelt musty and... More

Very near train station, 20-30 minutes walk to city center. Room including toilet is very small. Have to put big luggage on the desk because no space on floor. Tiny bath tub / shower area. Have to shower sideways. If not river view, View is just wall/window of other building. Can hear muffled conversation from other room.

It s an old hitel that needs updating . Clean , the staff are nice and helpfull .but everything else was mediocre. The breakfast is not what is annouced . It s a four star hotel with not much to offer. It s overpriced. Coming here after Rome s hitels was disappointing.

We traveled to Florence & San Martino with our 2 Puggles this trip. The Hotel Principe was perfect and very understanding to our situation. The hotel is a little dated but very comfortable and the views are splendid. They served us breakfast in the room to ensure we could have a relaxing morning without leaving the dogs by themselves. Parking... More

Hotel Principe was recommended by a friend and it was as comfortable and pleasant as described. Since it was off season, the 20 guest rooms were only partially full. I had a charming room with a balcony overlooking the Arno, within easy walking distance of the Ponte Vecchio, etc. but in a very quiet neighborhood with some excellent restaurants, a... More

The pictures on all the websites were a far cry from the actual. Despite the Hotel being in a good location, it was very old. I only saw 3 persons in the hotel for my 2 days stay: 1 in reception in the morning, 1 in reception in the afternoon and someone who came to fix the electricals which shortcircuited... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
