Staff was very help full, had and issue with the shower and it was fixed immediately, breakfast good, location is excellent near Santa Maria Novella station, the Duomo, Mercato, etc. The hotel needs to be remodeled and updated.

This hotel is steps from the train station. Perfect location as a base to explore this wonderful city and the region. The staff were very helpful and the elevator worked. The decor was a bit passe. The bathrooms were clean, so was the room. Breakfast was included.

First impressions really do count and this hotel really did need a makeover. It was dark and gloomy and we had to leave lights on in the room so that we didn't walk into the bed on the way in. However we did find that the room was pretty clean- providing you didn't look too closely! Breakfast was pretty bog... More

This is an old hotel that has seen better days but still has something left to offer. It is well located—just a couple of blocks from the main train station in Florence and that makes it worth the stay. Head out the front door and turn left and in a few blocks you are looking up at the Duomo in... More

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. If not already paid for I would never of stayed here. The rooms were very dark and dirty. Bathroom had a sewer gas smell. When complained they would not change room. Air conditioning did not work. Breakfast buffet was disgusting. Several unbusses tables. Shower stall was broken.

We booked this hotel last minute and in a rush. I am young and don't mind roughing it a bit, but I have honestly stayed in hostels where I have had a private room and paid $30 a night which have been better this hotel! This place is filthy, and I mean FILTHY. The carpets are stained with God knows... More

This place is a rip-off for what it is. The only advantage is being so close to the train station. The check-in was staff so rude and unwelcoming. The breakfast buffet was below average. The minute you enter the hotel lounge, you can sense the dim lights to cover up the cracked walls and cluttered, antiquated decor are speaking of... More

It's good if you need to catch the train in the early morning or if you're on a budget but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it. It's dark, dirty and looks like it need some maintenance. Rooms are small and only have some plastic slides you need to assembly to create a shower. Some people may find it weird hallways quirky... More

Loved the ambiance of staying in a 700 plus year old building that is a great location and value. Central to much of Florence's attractions. Staff was outstanding and helpful in planning trips from Florence to other Tuscan towns.

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
