This hotel has an excellent location, very close to both the main railway station and to the duomo. We found the staff to be friendly and very helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble, especially the bell boy who had to lug our three heavy bags up to the top floor as the lift wasn't working when we arrived. The breakfast... More

A very old building, in a great location, reasonably priced. 8 min walk to train station, and Duomo. Stayed in 228. Big room, 8 metre hallway inside the room to the bathroom! Clean room and sheets, friendly staff, reasonable breakfast. Instructions for the safe didn't work. If you are not fussy, and understand the quirks of a 15th century building,... More

First of all, i would like to say big thanks to the employees, who were VERY helpful. About the hotel is self: Clean bathrooms with modern furniture, which is very nice considering that all other furniture is kind of "antique" :) Hotel located close to the most popular places. The breakfast was fine, except there were no eggs, which i... More

Average room (no. 466) with no proper air con. Room is very hot. We booked for a queen bed and got two singles pushed together. Lots of stairs throughout even with the small lift. Not Australian 3 star standards that's for sure. Buffet breakfast and the location is about the best thing going.

This hotel is ideally situated for seeing the wonderful sites in Florence. The staff were very friendly and helpful. No problem with the breakfast, cheese, meats, tomatoes, cuecumber, selection of breads and croissants, juice and coffee. What is not to like? The room we had was clean and very nice. We were in Florence for a birthday celebration with our son and daughter-in-law, they also... More

Our room was the... More

the location of this hotel is very good, as well as rooms and interior... very interesting. But the breakfast is soon bad! its such a shame how can an Italian hotel have such awful breakfast when its the country famous for good food... It is also noisy because its an old building in the center of florence, so no noise... More

It's perfectly located, 5 min away from the duomo and another 10 from the train station, but the furniture and the facilities are a bit older than you might tolerate if you like "old fashioned" hotels. Wifi was intermittent, as was the aircon. The staff were helpful but ultimately the comfort is brought down by the stale interior and less... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
