Hotels in Florence are not cheap. However the hotel Roma offered good value for money we had two connecting rooms a double for us and a triple for the children. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were excellent. The service was good and the breakfast (for Italy) was good (Do not expect and American styled breakfast). The location was... More

We had reserved and pre-paid for a room at Hotel Rapallo in mid January 2016. 4 days prior to our arrival in Florence, Expedia called to inform us that the Rapallo was overbooked and transferred our reservation to Hotel Roma. When we showed up at Hotel Roma, there was no reservation and the Roma was full that night. Instead of... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very nice room that was newly renovated and quiet. Easy walking distance to the major old city sites. Staff was helpful and courteous. Parking is paying but you can drive to the hotel in the restricted area, where they pick up your car and then bring it back on day of departure. Loved the hotel's... More

Nice hotel, staff at all places: front desk, restaurant, cleaners were very friendly. At check out we received a present from the hotel, first time ever to get one. Location at the Santa Maria Novela makes it great for staying. Nice rooms

The hotel is ok , clean and great location between the train station and the Ponte Vecchio . The hotel has old and new rooms , they put us in the old type, and that one I do not recommend . I am very allergic and suffered with the floor carpeted . The breakfast could be better.

We stayed 2 nights with a group tour. Our room in a corner facing the plaza never cooled off. The air conditioning did not seem to work and we requested a fan which helped but the room was still too warm at night and because we faced the plaza there was music and noise going at least until 11:00pm. The... More

the staff was friendly and ensured a comfortable stay. the hotel itself is charming, some tinges of modern in an otherwise old-school italian antique-esque charm. its hard to explain, but it was cute. we had excellent views of the piazza, and the wifi was adequate (I think) the location is minutes away from all the main attractions in Florence, as... We stayed for 2 nights at Hotel Rona in a lovely quiet triple room in the 1st floor. The bathroom was very large and the room was perfect for a family with 1 child. The staff were so warm and welcoming especially Stefania and made us feel right at home! Breakfast was great - eggs meats cheeses cereals and pastries.... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
