We had great memories of this place and it was supposed to be a special trip but 16 years on this hotel is in urgent need of an upgrade! The reception staff was very nice but no help with luggage and the breakfast was quite average, too. Pretty run down with air conditioning on it's last legs, showerheads and lights... More

We would like to clarify that at the check-in we usually offer our guests the help of the porter to be taken to the room. We would also like to highlight that in the past 3 years we have remade the furniture of many rooms, renovated the bathrooms, placed new sound proof windows and air conditioning/heating system. In the current... More

We ended our 2 week trip to Florence by staying at this hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and everyone spoke impeccable English which made it so easy for us to communicate. Very clean hotel, steps away from all the action of Florence and yet a quiet little oasis of calm once inside. Having the pool was an... More

This is our first day so we will keep this short but provide a second review when we leave.... So far....... 1. Wonderful reception from the friendly staff. Very welcoming. 2. They Upgraded us from the family room on the street side to two separate rooms, one standard, one upgraded with a small balcony. Both the new rooms overlook a... More

We arrived before check-in time with spinning heads having driven in circles round Firenze's one way system until we nearly disappeared up our own exhaust pipe. A warm welcome awaited, luggage and car taken off our hands (nb outsourced car parking at 25 euros per day) and coffee in the courtyard by the pool. Front desk (overseen by Luca) could... More

Best hotel experience thus far! We got two rooms that were thankfully adjacent. Highlights are the pool and roof top bar! Great customer service. Within walking distance of many sights. Hotel restaurant was sub par for lunch so didn't try dinner. Breakfast options were the best so far (eggs!) Overall I would choose it again!

Absolutely amazing location close enough to the main railway station but far enough away... Right by a lovely piazza with restaurants and minutes walk to main sites and attractions and beautiful Arnos river. The roof top bar is great for a pre dinner G&T, but quite expensive. The hotel is traditional rather than modern and my room was on the... More

The hotel is currently conveniently located to all sites, great plaza area across the street. Pool area was clean and my kids enjoyed swimming. Food was good. Breakfast was a bit chaotic due to size of area and they would not allow dining on patio. Our room was large and comfortable. They also assisted us with a babysitter. We would... More

The Croce was once a Convent and, while sitting with a coffee in the early Tuscan Sun, I imagined their washing billowing in the courtyard (don't judge; I'm only talking wimples and bed linen) where now lies a swimming pool, outdoor dining and general lounging area. It is an old building with much to offer in the decor and tasteful... More

We booked this hotel last minute after deciding to leave our previous hotel due to massive disappointment, and not only did it save our holiday it made our Florence experience. To start it is a great location, all the main attractions are walking distance. The staff are amazing, literally the best hotel staff I have come across in a very... More

Not too far to main attractions and close to restaurants and train station. The room was very clean and comfortable breakfast was good. Staff were friendly. Decor is quite 70's but the basics are covered. We loved the pool since it provided a nice break to our young child from visiting museums and attractions. Will stay there again.

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
