My wife and I stayed here while on a tour of Italy. We had an upgraded room and were very happy with everything. The room was nice and the service was excellent. We particularly enjoyed the bar/lounge in the lobby and had drinks and snacks there two evenings. The breakfast was just ok (cold eggs). All in all a good... More

On the approach, the Starhotel Michelangelo does not look much like a hotel - more like an office building. The entrance is on the corner so the door are at a 45 degree angle to the street and walking in the lobby opens before you, with whimsical touches of the 60s - note: this is intentional and now becoming quite... Great Hotel in Florence. The outside of the building does not look like much but the rooms are amazing. The Hotel lobby is a bit retro but very cool. Gabriel and others at front desk are very helpful with recommendations. Really loved it and would go back.

We traveled with Gate1Travel,so they had arranged the booking and we were a bit nervous about the quality of hotel. However, we cannot complain about the Michelangelo. It was clean, had good service, our room really didn't have much of a view, but we did not spend a lot of time in the room, so that was not a negative... More

A short walk to the historical district, this hotel is a quiet getaway from the business. Rooms are spacious and immaculate. Breakfast every morning is delicious and a big spread to chose from. The staff are most gracious and helpful. The lobby restaurant is a little pricey but the service makes it worthwhile.

We were expecting a bit more from a 4 star hotel. The first room that we got was very noisy with bad view, second room was the same. Third room was the one we stayed in. There are no carpets which makes room less cosy. Bed was ok. We have stayed in many 4 stars hotels and this one had... More

A bit far of a walk from the train station. Doable but awkward with luggage - just far enough for a taxi probably if you have heavy luggage. Excellent value. Great rooms. Don't bother with breakfast. Close to river - solid 15-20 minute walk from central Florence (e.g. Duomo) but good way to start and end your day.

In plus - staff was very friendly and polite. We asked to change room several times and although they did not know how to fix 'loud sound in the rooms' issue we had they always proposed another room - location is quite good - very nice lobby in minus: -paper thin walls. You can here everything that your neighbours or... More

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel was ideal, staff were fantastic. The breakfast had a great variety of hot and cold foods. Its a short walk along the river to the centre of florence. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The best part about this hotel is Location. It's just one Tram stop from SMN station and thus very close to all tourist attractions. River Arno is just a stone's throw from the hotel. Even the Opera theatre is across the main road. Perfect location, I must say if you enjoy serene and calm environment. For us it was better... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
