After having a nice experience in rome & naples....went to florence...wherein this seemed to be a nice hotel almost quite near to the attractive sites. The location is nice with only few hundred meters from the river. The lobby was an instant damper....low lighting though the staff was helpful. Room chosen by me was a family room but they had... Modern hotel. Rooms are very clean and well maintained. The gym is a nice size for a hotel gym. Location is a little bit away from main attractions. But city is a short walk away. And there are several restaurants within blocks. There is even a market and a laundromat nearby. If you do need transportation the bus stop is... More

My family of 4, had booked a room, and spent two nights at this hotel from the evening of July 13 to the morning of July 14. It's an excellent hotel for the price, so full marks here. It's also spotlessly clean and well maintained. We stayed in room 310 It's a decent sized room with a comfortable double bed.... More

This hotel is remodeled and clean but do NOT fall for the air conditioning advertisement. They suggest they have air conditioning in the rooms. There is one little vent that blows out HOT air. I was up the entire night. Had 5 maintenance people in our room which was a show. The main reason it doesn't work is because the... More

Lovely hotell, elegant, better than we expected! Large rooms. Stayed with kids, the hotell has a VIK service (very important kids), our boys loved that! About 15 min walk to sights, but a nice walk along river. Wifi worked well. Bar/restaurant good, had dinner here one night. Would recommend the hotell for both family and couples.

We had a great stay in this hotel. The rooms were wonderful, decent sizes and very comfortable. It is a good 15 min walk into the city centre, but then this should not come as a surprise if you check the location before booking. For this walk, you get a much nicer hotel for your money in my opinion. We... More

My wife and I stayed here while on a tour of Italy. We had an upgraded room and were very happy with everything. The room was nice and the service was excellent. We particularly enjoyed the bar/lounge in the lobby and had drinks and snacks there two evenings. The breakfast was just ok (cold eggs). All in all a good... More

On the approach, the Starhotel Michelangelo does not look much like a hotel - more like an office building. The entrance is on the corner so the door are at a 45 degree angle to the street and walking in the lobby opens before you, with whimsical touches of the 60s - note: this is intentional and now becoming quite... Great Hotel in Florence. The outside of the building does not look like much but the rooms are amazing. The Hotel lobby is a bit retro but very cool. Gabriel and others at front desk are very helpful with recommendations. Really loved it and would go back.

We traveled with Gate1Travel,so they had arranged the booking and we were a bit nervous about the quality of hotel. However, we cannot complain about the Michelangelo. It was clean, had good service, our room really didn't have much of a view, but we did not spend a lot of time in the room, so that was not a negative... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
