Palazzo Uguccioni is located in Piazza della Signoria - in the heart of the city center. From the palazzo, you step outside into this famous piazza's open-air museum, and walk to all of the city's most famous monuments within minutes. We are around the corner from the Ponte Vecchio, down the street from the Duomo, a short stroll to Piazza Santa Croce, and only steps from the Uffizi. You can't find a better location from which to explore Florence! Palazzo Uguccioni Some of the most important Florentine palaces surround Piazza della Signoria, and Palazzo Uguccioni is in fact one of these splendid palaces. The building, with its noble and harmonious façade, was created for Giovanni Uguccioni by Mariotto di Zanobi Folfi in 1549 to a design by Raphael. From the ground floor, constructed with large ashlars forming three arches, two stories rise above and are divided by twin columns of the Ionic and Corinthian order which are set on plinths. On the first floor, above the entrance, is a bust of Cosimo I (currently being restored). It is in this magnificent building that our five charming apartments can be found and where one may experience an unforgettable stay and enjoy some of the most beautiful views in the world!

A wonderful little apartment awaited us upon arrival into Florence at the top floor of Palazzo Uguccioni, a Renaissance Palace built for Giovanni Ugucchioni in the mid 1500s in Piazza della Signora. The design of the building has been attributed to several great artists including Raphael and Michelangelo and carries the Medici coat of arms. Christened "Camera con Vista" or "Room with A View", it certainly delivered but note that there is a short steep set of stairs to manoeuvre to get up to the apartment from the lift.

The main bedroom cum living area is framed with two large windows overlooking the rooftops out to the Duomo from one window and the Uffizi Gallery from the other. The sight of the Uffizi when lit up at night from the "matrimonial bed" (as the Italians coin it) was fantastic and on one of our nights, classical music from a concert held somewhere nearby wafted into the room. Where else but Italy? There was a loft with two single beds for our two adult kids with a single bathroom to share. I loved the church bells ringing on the hour but I guess not everyone might.

Space was a premium but the apartment is well designed with storage space. The kitchenette was well stocked and inbuilt into a cupboard - a microwave was provided as well. The fridge was hidden away at the bottom of the stairs leading to the loft. Laundry facilities are down a set of stairs on the floor below.

There is no reception at the residence and check in is by meeting up with the very kind apartment manager. It would pay to ring ahead to make arrangements for the handover upon arrival.

Right outside the doorstep is Piazza Della Signoria, one of the main vibrant squares of the city. The Uffizi Gallery is at your doorstep as are restaurants - eat a meal while admiring the great statue of Cosimo Medici in the centre of the square and the Renaissance statues gracing a pavilion near the Uffizi. The Duomo is a short walk away as is the Ponte Vecchio and the Palazzo Pitti.

The Palazzo Uguccioni is also in the midst of Florence's shopping precinct with both high end designer and high street shops intermixed with more restaurants and gelatarias down the side streets. There is a small but well stocked supermarket (Meta) nearby for provisions for those interested and outside is a street stall selling delicious paninis and burgers. It is famous for its tripe, an age old Florentine delicacy although we didn't try it.

Palazzo Uguccioni is about a 5-10 minute taxi ride (Euro 8-15) from Florence's Santa Maria Nouvella train station depending on traffic. Taxis will need to be ordered but do be ready before they come as there is no stopping along the side streets leaving up to the piazza.

I loved the Palazzo with its charm and atmosphere. I admit that it did get rather cosy with four adults and perhaps would be better suited for a couple but we will return. It is one of those places which makes a holiday memorable.

What a location. We felt we were like locals walking into this gorgeous old building - I'm sure those sitting in piazza Della signoria were envious of our location. The apartment itself was beautiful. We stayed in the fantasia apartment. The attic room does have a low beam but there is a sign warning you and after you hit your head once you know not to do it again! The kitchenette was small but functional. No views as such but like I said it didn't matter. As soon as you walked outside you were in what I think is the most beautiful square in Florence and within walking distance of all the major sites. The apartment had modern furnishings and was clean and gorgeous. I hope I get to come back to this gorgeous location - the apartment and florence

We just returned from a two week vacation in Italy and upon a family vote, we voted the "Camera con Vista" at the Palazzo Uguccioni, our best apartment in Italy. Everything about the apartment was great: It had an amazing view, in the best location, it was clean, quiet, and charming. And even though we were a family of four (two adults and two teenagers), we found the room very comfortable. We will definitely stay at the Palazzo Uguccioni during our next visit to Florence.

You have to be careful if you do a reservation on internet for this hotel!
We had one done by Booking and took with us the copy of this reservation confirmed. On arrival the door was closed and nobody answered. We called the telephone number indicated by the reservation paper and a lady in a very bad mood answered she had no knowledge of any reservation and the apartments were full. When we tried to talk to her personnaly and show her our confirmation she was very upset and told there was no one there who could attend us and that the apartments were complete. We were 6 people without hotel and all the places were full. Fortunately , at the end , we got to find another apartment in another hotel, the last left...

Response from PalazzoUguccioni, Manager at Palazzo Uguccioni
Responded Oct 25, 2011
Dear Ana, We are extremely sorry you had such a bad experience in Florence. You are correct that you have to be very careful when making a reservation on the internet! We often work with online agencies, and most of their clients arrive at Palazzo Uguccioni without problems and enjoy our accommodations very much. Very rarely, as in your case, things go wrong. The agency you booked with never sent us notification of your reservation at all. So imagine our surprise when you called out of the blue, thinking you had a room. Not only were we unprepared for your check-in, but we also could not accommodate you because we did not have any available apartments. If we had an apartment for you, we would have gladly honored your reservation. When you called, I believe at around 7pm, the woman who does our check-ins had already gone home for the day (not expecting any arrivals). You said she was in a "bad mood", but I can assure you she was simply aggravated with the agency for putting us in such a bad position. She is a very precise and meticulous woman, and hates when things go wrong. We apologize if her frustration with the agency came off as frustration with you. The agency really put us both, client and accommodation, in a very bad spot! So I am not trying to belittle your anger and disappointment, but only asking you to see it from our side. We are also victims of the agency. And I realize that we take part of the blame by working with agencies at all (but in the current market it is really the only way a small establishment such as ours can stay in business). To avoid "agency glitches", I urge future clients to reserve with us directly on our website (just our name). If you do reserve with an agency or other website, please contact us as soon as possible to confirm your reservation and set up a check-in appointment. Ana, we are really sorry that this situation occurred, and hope that we can welcome you to Palazzo Uguccioni at another time. Best Regards, Ellen

Terrible! Worst room ever! AC does not work, room never got below 85 degrees downstairs and was over 90 degrees in the loft. They know it is hot and have a fan but the fan was broken. Room is horribly small and cramped. Beds are small, hard and uncomfortable. Sleep was impossible. I want my money back! We were robbed!

The location of these apartments is fantastic, but the private lift is a little off putting and once in the apartment we were concerned how we would escape if there was a fire as our only exit was the lift.
We would not return as you had to be there at a certain time and we were late because of thunder storms and the phone number given to us to contact the lady who was letting us in did not work. We would choose an hotel next. The television did not work but the wi if was excellent.

Stayed in this apartment last week of September with one other couple. We stayed in one of the apartments with two bedrooms and a common space - the Fantasia. The building and apartment felt extremely authentic to Firenze. We all felt very safe in this location as well. This is more of a residence type stay than a hotel stay, so there is no maid service or daily exchange of linens. However, there is a washer and dryer and the owner provides detergents/dryer sheets. This was excellent for our long stay. There is no office or front dest to talk with staff, but the manager is very responsive via phone or email.
I would only heed warning to maybe older couples or those unable to maneuver small spaces well. One of the bedrooms in our apartment was up several steep stairs, and the room had a large beam on the ceiling requiring us to duck down to maneuver the room. For us, this was absolutely no problem and did not distract from a great stay in the least (Remember you are in a 500 year old building, and experiencing Firenze as you should).

The location was perfect - views of beautiful fountains and beside the Uffizi and Gucci museum. The Circus cafe just to the left is amazing, and we had three excellent meals at Rivoire in the same piazza (square).

I would absolutely stay with this residence again, and would refer to friends and family.

Thanks for a great stay!

This was perfect in every way. The location is fantastic and our apartment was spacious and comfortable. My husband and i had a great ensuite bedroom and our teenagers had a loft room. Watch your head if you are tall but the room has its own bathroom and suited them well.

Historic building with excellent, central location within easy walking distance of every major site. Room was comfortable and provided every amenity needed. We shopped nearby for breakfast foods which we enjoyed in the apartment and sought meals at restaurants through excellent wifi connection. Ernestine was very helpful, responsive to all our needs. I loved the feel and sound of closing the imposing front door!!

You can't help but be impressed when you arrive at your accommodation and tourists are taking photos of it! To take out the key and open the giant front door in front of them gives you a real thrill!

Palazzo Uguccioni is in the perfect location right on Piazza Della Signoria. Just saunter down to see anything in the centre of Florence - everything is so close! 100 metres to the Duomo, 150 m to the Ponte Vecchio. From the bathroom of our apartment (Panorama) we could even see the dome of the Duomo. The Uffizi was across the square. All the windows frame incredible views of historic Florence. Seriously this is an unbeatable location. You can pop back at any time during your sightseeing to drop things off or have a rest.

Our apartment was on the 4th floor with the bedroom on a mezzanine level and 2 sofa beds in the main living area for the 2 teenagers. It was a little squeezy to pull out the 2 sofa beds so they shared one. There is a well equipped kitchen but who needs to cook when you are surrounded by restaurants.

Booked well in advance at a good rate this apartment proved to be really good value for our family. All the arrangements to get the keys from Ernestina went very smoothly and we highly recommend this apartment.

Wifi was good.

Helpful hint: A few more everyday comforts like tea bags, coffee and spare toilet paper would be great.
