The owners are a fantastic couple that cater to your every need. Jeanette is a great cook and will whip up memorable breakfasts and snacks. Location is on the main street in Cortona with easy access. Rooms are large and very clean. All Covid restrictions were followed. Will definitely return!
I can't say enough wonderful things about Casa Chilenne or about Jeanette. My room was clean, cozy, and warm and I was so comfortable there. Breakfast every morning was amazing. I had wonderful chocolate pear waffles on the first morning and I could have eaten them every day, but there were so many other delicious things, including the croissants. Jeanette went above and beyond to be a helpful hostess. Not knowing better, I accidentally bought postcard stamps for a private postal service rather than the regular Italian post. I only learned my mistake when I'd asked Jeanette to mail the postcards for me (thinking they could just be added to her regular mail). She tracked down the proper place to mail them and sent them for me. She also knows everyone in town and can direct you to anything you want or need. I give this B&B my highest possible rating. I plan to return again in the future.…
This was my third stay at Casa Chilenne, and it continues to be one of my favorite places in the world. Jeanette is a wonderful hostess. The rooms are beautiful and perfectly clean. The breakfasts are the best -- lots of options for baked goods (fresh, with local ingredients), meats and cheeses, plus hot, freshly made eggs, waffles, etc. I hardly needed to eat lunch! The location is perfect -- close to all the sites, restaurants and views in Cortona. The rooftop terrace is a perfect gathering spot if you are traveling with a group.
There aren't enough stars to describe our visit to Casa Chilenne over the past two weeks. Jeanette makes a breakfast we will crave every day, with wonderful baked goods from her kitchen, meats and cheeses, and the best cappuccino EVER! She will also make wonderful eggs, or waffles or pancakes.. The breakfasts alone make the stay worth it. Add to that the location, the lovely, well-equipped rooms, the availability of a chair lift to get up the stairs, the roof-top deck overlooking a beautiful steet full of shops and restaurants, and there is no question as to where to stay! The added, and not-to-be-dismissed bonus is Jeanette's little black book of drivers and tour guides, and her well-cultivated relationships throughout the region. She organized several great adventures for our family, with drivers, food, tours... The guides in Rome and Florence went above and beyond, and our drivers made the crazy roads seem almost Zen. She even found us rental cars and scooters on demand, delivered to the square half a block away. We would have stayed longer if we had the vacation time! The photo is one sunset from the deck. 5 stars all the way.…
I just returned from six nights at Casa Chilenne, which I booked last minute for a writing retreat, returning to Cortona after an eighteen-year absence. I could not have chosen a better place to stay or found a more perfect hostess. I look forward to a return trip! Here are the reasons you should book your Cortona stay here (many of which have already been noted in the many glowing reviews below): Location: The B&B is located close to the end of the only flat, and main street in Cortona, where most of the shops, bars and restaurants are located (and an excellent gelateria a few steps from the front door). The primary entry point for cars in the traffic-limited centro storico is at this end of the street in Piazza Garibaldi (with some of the best views overlooking the valley), which is not only useful for meeting tour guides for trips out of town but is the drop-off and pick-up location for the shuttle (1.50 each way) to the train station. It's an easy two-minute walk with your luggage to the front door. The house is a good midpoint from the main piazza to the right five minutes walking, and the local park to the left five minutes walking, with fountain, benches and more views. Accommodations: Chairlifts on all of the staircases ideal for those with mobility issues, and handy for transporting luggage up and down. Rooms are spotlessly clean and well-appointed, with great lighting, generously-sized bathroom with plenty of space on a separate cabinet to spread out all my toiletries, very good water pressure and no issues with water temperature--I like a HOT shower, ample closet space (well-designed), and well-functioning AC. I was in "Il Nido"--the Nest--on the top floor, which also had a small balcony opening to the back courtyard. As noted by other reviewers, outside of that room is a communal living space and kitchen, as well as a roof terrace, which I had to myself for all but the last day of my stay; however, after 10pm it is to be used exclusively by whoever is in the top floor guest room. I did have an issue with my bed the first night as I prefer a little more cushioning and a softer pillow, and Jeanette rectified it immediately by adding a memory foam and finding the perfect soft pillow to add to the 4 already in the room. Breakfast: Best breakfast I've ever had in a B&B. Eggs, waffles, pancakes, bacon, made to order and cooked perfectly. Yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, Italian meats and cheeses, fresh- breads, home-baked muffins and pastries, cakes and tarts. Wonderful cappuccino and a full bottle of water at the table each morning. Jeannette: Having worked in the tourist industry even before she and her husband decided to open a B&B, it's clear that Jeannette knows how to take care of travelers. Aside from well-thought out restaurant recommendations, and information about local events that one might have missed, she provided a warm, welcoming atmosphere for all. Moreover, without my asking, she offered a small discount because I had booked a longish-stay at the last-minute. She was also immediately responsive when I was making the booking late at night two days before my arrival. I stay in well over a dozen hotels/inns/B&B's a year, and I have no hesitation giving Casa Chilenne five big stars and two very big thumbs up. Thank you ,Jeannette, for a lovely stay!…
My wife and I stayed for three nights in September 2019, along with my brother & sister-in-law. We had a late change of our travel plans due to a family death, and Jeanette readily accomodated us with two needed rooms for three nights. All of the other reviews are spot on; Jeanette and Luciano made us feel like family, from the assistance with dinner reservations, local 'must see' tips, excellent breakfasts, warm conservation, etc., etc. We love Cortona and loved our stay at Casa Chilenne and love how complete strangers treated us like family, an amazingly frequent occurrence during each of our visits to this wonderful country. We will be back......
Jeanette is an amazing hostess and a wonderful cook. Her B&B is better than home. I was a guest there with 8 high school students and another adult and we took over all the rooms. Jeanette made us feel welcome and gave us access to the kitchenette as well as the upper balcony. Having had a recent knee replacement, the chair lifts on all the stairs were a welcome feature. Located just steps away from all the restaurants and a spectacular view in Piazza Garibaldi, this is one special place to stay in Cortona.
We did not ask for El Nido, but we were lucky to stay there - though only for one night. A complete floor with sleeping, lounge/living room, kitchen, bathroom and a beautiful flowered terrace for a couple of two, alone. Enjoying a glass of wine and cold cuts in the lounge in the evening, breakfast on the terrace with fresh fruit, coffee and cake prepared by Jeanette and a great atmosphere of been taken care of by our hosts - this is the way we learn to enjoy more and more of living in Tuscany.
We spent 3 nights in Casa Chilenne B&B in mid May while driving through Tuscany and Umbria. Jeanette is a wonderful host with travel ideas & information and restaurant suggestions when asked. The B&B is well located on the main via into the center of Cortona, easy to find, not far from parking and very clean and comfortable. Then there are the breakfasts. Fantastico. As in all Tuscan hill towns the stairs always seem to only go one way, that being up, however Casa Chilenne has improvised with a chairmaster type of machine which will load your luggage and even yourself up to your floor and room. Our only complaint about this B&B is we had to leave. We highly recommend the Casa Chilenne B&B.
Jeanette was a wonderful hostess, going above and beyond to make our stay special. She was more than accommodating. She knew that we would be celebrating our anniversary while there and made us a beautiful and delicious chocolate cake, along with giving us a bottle of champagne. The breakfasts she prepared were the best we had in our 2 weeks in Italy. Her homemade croissants, cinnamon rolls and blueberry scones were the best we've ever had. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was updated and spacious. The location was perfect, in the heart of Cortona. Jeanette assisted us prior to leaving with contacting our car rental provider and making arrangements for us to return the car to a different location so we could take a direct train route to Rome for our flight back home. I would highly recommend this B&B and would return here again.…
