San Domenico is in a wonderful position very close to town, the entrance is not grand at all, reception is friendly enough - carpets throughout the hotel look slightly dirty, as does the carpet to the entrance! Bedrooms are very old fashioned and tired looking, for the price we paid it was not 5 star deluxe.

A former monastery where you can feel history, stroll in to Taormina, laze by the pool sipping Campari and soda and eat the most gorgeous food. Friendly and helpful staff, excellent service, lovely rooms - really clean and comfy (if in need of some soundproofing - sometimes it felt like our neighbours were in our room with us). Highly recommended

This hotel is rated as five star but fails to quite live up to that standard. It is an historic building, a fact which they really play up, but it is tired and needing a bit of investment to bring it back to the glory it deserves. The concierge/reception area is smart and the staff were efficient and very helpful.... More

I could not recommend this hotel enough. From reception throughout the service has been amazing. We had a classic room which was lovely. Air con fabulous and high up in room so didn't blow directly onto you. Breakfast is smashing with a great choice and omelettes made to order. The pool are is spotless and perfect with the shaded are... More

We booked the San Domenico Palace as the first part of our honeymoon (India later this year for part two!) as a tranquil break immediately after our wedding to relax and recharge our batteries in real luxury. The San Domenico Palace was the perfect choice. This is a true five star hotel in the old fashioned way. The building is... More

This 15th-century monastery was converted into a hotel in 1866. But don't expect monastic frugality—the decadent decor comprises marble, wooden floors and wrought iron tables, gothic candelabras and huge fireplaces. The old monks' "cells" have been converted into rooms—great for authenticity, but some are a bit tight. If you prefer a bit more space and modern luxury, then opt for... More

We stayed here for a week and it was fantastic! The staff cannot do enough for you and make you feel like royalty. Perfect location over looking the bay of Taormina and just a two minute stroll into the heart of the beautiful old town with so many restaurants to choose from. Breakfast was amazing so much choice and constantly... More

This is a really beautiful hotel, expensive but worth it, the building is amazing and sympathetically restored and the facilities unobtrusive and classy with great food. Its not the most modern , but thats the appeal they have created a simple but understated elegance - my only irritation is they don't provide spring water free - unlike all the other... More

Great location, once you find it! Challenging the first time you drive into the city. The hotel does need money spending on it, our bathroom was very dated and had no shower curtain so when we had a shower the floor flooded each time! We booked a junior suite with a terrace when we arrived we were taken to a... More
