We were met by Angela the owner and shown the facilities. Lovely modern Kitchen and very clean and the same for the bedrooms. We only stayed the night 1 June but would recommend it for hospitality and service. Also for the location just near the sea and so many restaurants and bars nearby. The only thing wasn't working was the coffee machine but breakfast was at a local bar close by which was no problem. Angela soon came to sort out the coffee machine after a phone call.

First of all, when we checked out after only one night, we did not have to pay anything. We really appreciated this gesture. However, the downsides of this B&B still make us not want to return. The host welcomed us, but then left the building without giving any information on how to get in touch in case something happened. We then had to e-mail her to make her, when we noticed there was no toilet paper in the bath room. The other guests were a large and VERY loud bunch, who spent most part of the night yelling, screaming, slamming doors and running back and forth in the hallway. In a hotel this might not have been a problem, but at the Stella Marina, the doors are paper thin as they are mostly made of glass. This also means that other guests will keep you awake just by have their light on. It shines directly in to your room. The room was poorly clean and very dusty, the bathroom smelled of sewage and there were multiple brown stains (!!) on my towel. The breakfast was already put out for us in advance. We do not know how long it had been there, but it looked very stale. In the corner of the breakfast room there was a washing machine with a lot of dirty sheets piled on top of it. Yes, really.

(The name of this property is b&b Stella Marina, in case you get there and can't find it!) We stayed over New Year 2014/5, and found the accommodation extremely comfortable, very well-placed and a real haven from some quite unpleasant weather! The owner comes in to prepare breakfast (quite late at 9am, but this suited us at this time of year!) and was very hospitable. We could come and go as we pleased, using the lounge and coffee facilities (so rare in Italy), and thankfully, the apartment was lovely and warm - it was cold, wet and very windy whilst we were there. The B&B is in an office/apartment block between the two harbours of Siracusa, so looks a little incongruous from the outside (approaching from the station, turn right at the end of the block containing BNL Bank) and the door is on the right a few yards down the street. You need to let the owner know what time you will be arriving so that she can be there to show you around and give you the keys - she does speak some English. Our room was bright, very clean and well-furnished, with a comfy bed. The balcony would have been lovely on a warm summer's day, but we couldm't use it! The separate bathroom was spotless, with a good shower (although we had a couple of problems with the hot water coming through, but they were addressed). The under-floor heating was especially welcome! Breakfast was quite varied - juice, yogurts, croissants, fruit, toast & jam, cakes and a range of coffee & teas. As noted elsewhere, there is no wi-fi, but Siracusa has plenty of places to connect if you really can't be without. The location of Stella Marina is excellent - although about a 10-minute walk from the bus and train stations, it's a flat walk, and easy to find the main road, off which it is located. Then it's only a few steps to the bridge to Ortygia, the historic (and tourist) centre of Siracusa. We ventured that way most evenings for food, plus some wonderful 'aimless mooching' around the narrow alleyways and pretty squares, as well as a more dramatic walk around the seafront esplanades when the waves were crashing in! However, there are a few dining and coffee spots quite close to the B&B too. I would thoroughly recommend Stella Marina for a cosy stay in an attractive city!
