We had a wonderful time based in this hotel.
The staff are just great, passionate about what they do and how they do it.
The room was very clean and kept that way. The bathroom excellent.
Two other things make it special, the breakfast and the quirky styling.
Also liked that the car was taken away and securely parked for us.

The service is excellent even before you arrive. You get an email asking if they can book airport transfers and at what time you are arriving to ensure arrangements are made for those arriving after reception closes at 9 pm.

When you arrive they offer you coffee and give you a personalized explanation of the main sites and recommended hotels with a map explaining how you find them.

They kindly allowed me to check in early and as I was leaving at 4:30 AM left a huge tray of fruit, fruit juice, coffee and a croissant in my room in the evening so I could have an early breakfast. (Picture below). Quite a change from the usual biscuits or stale sandwich.

My room was small but the bathroom spacious. The entire building and rooms are extremely well decorated. Aircon forked great.

The location is perfect. Walking distance to everywhere and five minutes walk from a train stop (Palazzo Réale Orleans) going directly to the airport (40 minutes).

The price is very reasonable but I was glad I had ear plugs as the sound of mopeds would otherwise have kept me awake.

I’d stay here again though.

We really liked this location, short walk into the centre of everything but out of it enough to feel authentic.
Staff were super friendly and really helpful
B&B was fabulous, quirky decor in a beautiful historic building. I would class this more as a boutique hotel than a B&B.
Breakfast was excellent
The only downside was no access to tea and coffee facilities outside of breakfast- I would urge you to consider coffee machines in communal area off rooms
Highly recommended and would stay here again

Stayed here two nights, first night we were overbooked (with no explanation) and given the choice of the "family room" - very low head room and a broken shower - or a triple room with one large window looking into the hotel lobby!
Asked to move to our originally booked room for the second night (which was very nice and as advertised).
Upon checkout the staff tried to charge us for breakfast as well as city tax, despite our booking (made through their website) clearly stating that breakfast was included! No mention of compensation (or even apology) for the overbooking either.
While this left a sour taste in our mouth, the hotel and breakfast were both really lovely, in a great area and perfect for a short city break in Palermo. Hotel itself is worth 5 stars, but the attitude of the management brings it down to 3.

If you like a funky not-so-perfect place, this could be for you. The people are fantastic and the location and price also great. It's just as I get older I think I prefer a little more refinement.
I appreciate all the efforts they make to create something unique and their attention to us was great! It was totally off season so it wasn't crowded.

We stayed at Porta di Castro for one night in Palermo after a holiday week in Sicily. The B&B is centrally located and despite being in a narrow street is accessible by car and offers a car parking service.
The interior design is quirky in a charming way. We travelled as a family and as we needed to share a room with our two young children we were a bit limited in the room choice. Our room (number 6) was tiny and had no window to the street, just a small window to the tiny inside patio. As a result it was very dark and felt really stuffy. I am not usually claustrophobic but I really struggled to sleep there. A shame we got the short straw as we were travelling with another family who had the same room category (4 people) and got a much bigger and nicer room with a balcony overlooking the street and also had a mezzanine. In my view our rooms were not worth the same despite having the same rate.
We managed to sleep ok with the basic air conditioning unit and to leave on a happy note thanks to the lavish and delicious breakfast served by incredibly friendly staff.
So overall a great accommodation option provided you don’t get room number 6!

We recently stayed in this excellent B and B in the historical centre of Palermo. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was huge and the added bonus of access to cold still and sparkling water throughout the day was welcome after a day sightseeing. It is close to the cathedral and the many street markets.

Wow Alessandro is a typical Italian, he has impeccable taste for decoration. This hotel/bnb is full of uniques treasures and is part mosque part ancient church with museum worthy statues and objects! It is right next to the Palatine Chapel and the Duomo on the heart of Palermo and Alessandro will tell all the best place to eat & what to order, what to see& do in Palermo. He is so gracious and accommodating, like an old friend. Everything is new, the beds are soooo comfortable and 5 star hotel quality but a modest price. Look no further, you have found the perfect place to stay!

Located a few steps from the Norman Palace and Cathedral of Palermo, the Porta di Castro is conveniently situated in the Ballaro district where you will also find a lively market on most mornings. Check in was easy and the staff even parked our rental car for us. The hotel staff is very friendly, especially at breakfast time when they put out mountains of fresh local pastries, fruit and coffee to order. The term continental breakfast doesn't begin to describe the volume and variety of cornettos, filled pastries, cakes, breads and spreads, fresh fruit and other local delicacies that we were offered! The rooms are elegantly appointed and each have their own unique charm, but all featured modern baths, luxury linens and climate control. Look no further, this is the place to stay in old Palermo!

Lovely hotel in a prime location.
Everybody involved with the hotel have been very friendly and welcoming. The airport transfer was stress free and quick, we had a room upgraded a complimentary breakfast sent to our room on our first morning there.(which was a lovely surprise).
In terms of looks the hotel is stunning and very unique. Also excellent rates for rooms with such a high standard in such a perfect location.
Couldn’t be happier with our stay.

Is this area safe?..We are 2 women traveling alone..

Greetings! It seemed safe to us. It’s in a dense area, with cars, scooters, pedestrians all dodging each other in the narrow passages. The hotel is quite a sanctuary from the outside. But you walk only a few hundred yards and you are the steps to the “gem of Palermo,” the Norman Palace. We walked mikes through this main area and found it very safe. Btw, if you want a superb private guide, happy to pass on our recommendation. Enjiy!
