We stayed here for two nights before we traveled around Sicily. The location was perfect, the accommodations were exactly as expected and the staff was excellent. Palermo is a very walkable town and this location was close to the sights and waterside restaurants. The hotel was kept very clean and our room was much larger than we expected it to be (a sitting room and a separate bedroom). The big, floor to ceiling windows opened and gave the perfect Sicilian balcony feeling. Air condition was perfect (you have to close the windows) and necessary - we were there in mid-June and it was unusually HOT. They served the typical Italian breakfast on the top floor and we could sit on the terrace or inside (in air conditioning). We can rave about the staff at reception forever. They reached out before our arrival to ask if they could arrange transportation from the airport. Our flight kept getting delayed and they watched the flight details to ensure someone would be there at 12:30 AM to pick us up. Beyond grateful, as flying into Palermo after midnight without this arranged would have been a little unnerving for us. The next day, we couldn't find a rental car to save our life (we checked every online outlet available), but the front desk arranged it quickly - set it up so we could drop off at a different location - and then had the rental company pick us up and bring us to the car. They drafted an excellent itinerary for our 5-day drive around Sicily and his recommendations were perfect! They even told us right where to see the perfect sunsets, routes to take, and where to stop off for great beaches.

I stayed at the Hotel Porta Felice for 5 nights. Firstly, all of the staff were really friendly and always available to help with recommendations or bookings as not many of the locals spoke English in Palermo. The room was clean and spacious, and the location of the hotel was close to the majority of local tourist attractions (i.e. 15 minute walk to train and bus station, 20 minute walk to the cathedral and town square). Just to note, the hotel did not have air con and there are currently a lot of building works going on at the front and back of hotel, so if you want to have the windows open for cool air, expect a lot of noise from 7am or during the night on the semi-busy road just outside. The hotel also does not have an iron available which I have never experienced before or any hair conditioner (only shampoo and body lotion), so make sure you bring your own! Another thing to know, the hotel walls are very thin you can hear everything in the rooms next to you and from the corridor - this didn't impact us much as we barely spent anytime in the room and we are quite heavy sleepers! There was a range of average breakfast options (hot and cold), with again extremely polite, helpful staff and the view on the balcony was beautiful. Food in the evening was very cheap and convenient but nothing special, we only used this option once as a quick snack but there are some lovely restaurants in the town centre with delicious Sicilian food! We also used the spa during our visit, the spa was clean and nice however the massage was extremely disappointing and I wouldn't recommend. It felt like the masseuse had no experience or prior training on how to give massages and I could easily have said it was the worst 45 minute massage I have ever had especially at ~50 euros. Overall, this hotel was for a great price and we had a great stay just a few minor things we wish we would have known before staying!

I stayed as part of a small group tour in this hotel for 3 nights. The room was clean, well appointed, and quite comfortable. They were very attentive to COVID protocols. Breakfast buffet was a delight with a mix of Sicilian, European, and American choices. WiFi service was very good. It is a very short walk to the waterfront and a 10 minute walk to the Quattro Canti (4 corners) where historical and architectural sites abound. I would stay here again.

Hotel is overall very well presented. Our room was lovely however the noise was a big problem. We were put in a room where our balcony was facing building work being done, every morning at 8am we were woken by workmen chucking bricks onto the wooden slats which was frustrating. You’re also able to hear everything happening in the corridors and feel as if you have no privacy in your room as you’re able to hear other people’s conversations from your bed. Another annoying thing about the room was that you weren’t able to adjust the temperature in the room at all, if you wanted the air con on or heating it was blank and unable to be changed. The selection at breakfast was okay however you have to pay for the hot food and it’s no longer a buffet due to covid, there was some language barriers at breakfast so it was a bit difficult to tell them what you wanted but this wasn’t much of an issue. The only problem at breakfast was that nothing got replenished, it was a matter of first come first served. But the spa was a lovely and I’d definitely recommend.

It’s an attractive enough hotel in good proximity to the major attractions. It’s a 15 euro taxi ride for the train station and 50 euro ride to the airport. I got a good rate of $99 per night with Trip Advisor Plus. I think what Trip Advisor Plus is doing is offering good rates at decent hotels that need a boost in their ratings, which I am ok with as a concept. The side street it is on was dark at night and a bit sketchy; they should really speak to the City about putting up some lights. The internet only worked in the lobby, and I had to call reception to have them turn the AC on. My room was on the second floor near the atrium so I could hear most of what went on the lobby when the AC was not on. There was no luggage rack in the room and my suitcase did not fit in the closet. They had SKY TV so some channels could be viewed in English. To use the spa sauna and jacuzzi area, they wanted 30 euro (~$35 US) and that was the guest rate. Had they offered a little bit more of a discount, I would have partaken of it. The gym was sufficient and the breakfast on the roof top was pleasant. The front desk printed my Covid test for me, booked my taxi back to the train station, and handed me a breakfast bag upon my early morning departure.

We stayed for two nights at the end of May. We could not have been happier with the location and the staff. From check-in to check-out, the staff at the reception desk were friendly and helpful making restaurant reservations for us and providing recommendations. The hotel is ideally located in the historic old part of the city, near the marina and Via Vittorio Emanuele, the main thoroughfare in Palermo, so it was easy to access the various points of interest. We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace. There was no self-serve buffet, but we made our selections, and the plates were brought to our table. Service was efficient and the choices were broad. We also enjoyed cocktails on the terrace one afternoon and again had great service as well as an interesting view. The room was clean and spacious, with a large bath, but it was a bit dark. There was a desk, and plenty of outlets for phone and laptop charging. Our room faced the side street, but noise was not an issue. This was our second trip to Palermo, and we definitely preferred this location and hotel to our choice the first time.

We can’t leave a proper review as we wasn’t allowed to stay at the hotel. Please please do not book this hotel unless you have a negative covid result and certification to prove it. We booked via booking.com and they don’t nothing to warn of us this change. Staff were helpful in finding us another hotel but as with most things in the world right now even hotels 5 minutes apart seem have inconsistent rules.

Response from Daniela Fusi, Direttore generale at Hotel Porta Felice

Dear Customer, I'm sorry you couldn't stay with us. The regulations in force in Italy regarding the prevention of Covid contagion provide that tourists from countries at risk arrive with a swab carried out no later than 72 hours before arrival. Alternatively, fiduciary isolation is envisaged. We are trying, when we have a valid e-mail adress, to notify all incoming customers. Today it is very difficult to work in these conditions, but we try to keep all measures for the safety of our customers and our staff. Thanks anyway for your review and we hope to see you again in teh future ! Best regards

Good location - though the street/alley on which the hotel is located is a bit off-putting. Comfortable room, OK AC. Not noise-proofed from the street which means you get an early wake-up call. Friendly staff - especially the restaurant staff Nice rooftop restaurant - we ate there the night we arrived. It was very good. (thereafter we ate at Cagliostro -highly recommended) Good breakfast - though the coffee is not up to the standard of the food. One niggle: When I paid the bill the night before we left, the hotel's machine would not process my card. Luckily, I only had the dinner and city tax to pay, so I had enough cash to cover it and to pay the taxi to the airport in the morning. My card had worked fine at Cagliostro restaurant about 15 minutes earlier and worked fine at the airport.

This Hotel has a great location for walking into the city of Palermo. On a quiet side street the hotel is perfect. You can have paid parking which is helpful. The staff was friendly and helpful. My only complaint was this was a "Spa" Hotel but they charged the guests to use it.

Stayed 10 nights in a triple room. The hotel is small and furnished nicely. The room we had was spacious with a large bed and a single bed there was also 2 chairs. We had a small balcony which looked out over the street at the front of the hotel. The bathroom was large. The shower is over the bath and it is quite high to step into it. In the bathroom is a hairdryer, shampoo, body lotion, shower cap and a vanity set (cotton buds, cotton wool pads and an emery board. The bed linen was spotless and sparkling white and looked and felt luxurious. The beds were extremely comfortable. If the air conditioning was off you just needed to ask at reception and it was switched on very quickly. Breakfast was nice and my son liked the chocolate coisants and hot chocolate. We were able to get a seat on the outside balcony most mornings. Once we got our bearings the hotels location was good. Close to lots of restaurants and bars. It was 2 buses to mondello beach which takes a good hour or more but worth it. We went to the beach all day came back to the hotel and changed and enjoyed the restaurants and bars of Palermo. The hotel arranged a return taxi for us and confirmed the price and time by email. The cost was added to hotel bill - so easy. We stayed in room 308 and our safe did not work we reported it twice. .
