The bathroom is shared, there is a shared kitchenette for breakfast (included in the price), no elevator, no TV in my room. Central location, a few steps from the cathedral of St. Agatha!
If they give me the same room, I will come back again!!!
The neighbourhood felt safe, compared to the rest of Catania.
The bus stop to the airport is a 5-10 minute walk away although if you can share a taxi between four of you it won't cost much more than the combined bus tickets.
Pros:
-The roof deck was amazing. I barely made it out there, but when I did it was stunningly beautiful.
-The wifi was good.
-It was basically right next door to an awesome gelato shop. I had to stop myself from going a second time, otherwise I would have gone three times a day.
-Each room has a cute little balcony overlooking the castle.
Meh:
-The location was fine. It wasn't right in the heart of things, but it was easy enough to walk there. Also easy enough to walk to the airport bus stop (like 15-20 min depending on how lost you get). The host gave me a very stern warning in Italian about avoiding a particular adjacent neighborhood, so for that reason I'd be a little wary of the location, but I never had any problems personally.
-It was on the third floor and there was no elevator. This was a minor annoyance for me with a backpack, but I can't imagine how it would be possible for someone with limited mobility.
-The hosts didn't seem to speak any English. Except their daughter (?), whom I saw once in the week I was there. This wasn't really a problem, and honestly in some ways added to the experience. But if you don't speak Italian and are expecting to be able to get advice on what to see and do in the area, you're probably out of luck.
Cons:
-The kitchen. For breakfast, it's first come first served with one big mason jar filled with some sort of corn flakes type of cereal, and another filled with cookies. Some days there was cereal in the jar, some days it had run out. Some days there was milk, some days it was rancid. And if you wanted to use the kitchen outside of breakfast, it cost 5 euros. That didn't include oil or spices or anything, just using the actual kitchen facilities. 5 euros!
-Though the hosts made a point of being present for check-in, they were otherwise a little hard to locate. So when there was no breakfast food, you just couldn't eat breakfast there.
The owner is not easy to reach. He told us we have to pay in cash and to come pay him the next day. The next day comes and he doesnt answer any of the office cell phone numbers. Finally at 7pm we reach him by shouting to him from the inside yard. We had to help other guests find the right places because the owner gave them confusing directions. There is a lady in the neighbouring building that shouts and screams almost non stop every day, breaks glasses etc. which is disturbing to me at least.
The key is same to every door so no safety there.
"At least a new comfortable mattress for this price! Showerhead hardly working was difficult to had a shower. Better to change."Read full review
