I’ve been in this hotel for 3 nights. The rooms are very nice and clean, the staff very helpful and kind. I wanted to prepare a little birthday surprise for my boyfriend and they helped me with the logistic (cake, balloons, candles). We also used the Spa available at the hotel which was nice but nothing special. To be honest, for the price of the room (189€ per night) the access to the Spa facilities (very little Turkish bath and a Shower with special water jet) should be included in the room rate for hotel guests and for the entire stay. However, they charge 20€ per person for only 1 hour access, so the value for money of this service is quite unbalanced. For 3 nights stay they gave us only one access to the Spa for free and this was a bit disappointing. Also, our flight was scheduled in the evening and we would have appreciated a couple of hours late check out for free, but this not happened. We asked for late check out and they told us that the rate was 90€, even if the room was not sold to anyone else after us.

In general the stay was pleasant, but some things can be improved.

We stayed at the Duomo Inn and Suites for 5 nights in early May while visiting Catania and Taormina. We booked the ‘Nuovo Cinema Paradiso’ room and this room is absolutely beautiful, spacious and modern. The inn is just meters away from the Piazza del Duomo, Fontana dell’Elefante and many seafood restaurants and other attractions. Breakfast spread served by Deussy every morning was very good. On a nice clear day you can have a breakfast with a view of Mt. Etna. We also want to thank Massimo, our driver arranged by the hotel. He drove us to Taormina and he’s a very careful driver. This place is a gem in the center of Catania! Thank you very much for a very pleasant stay.

Response from Sergio Buscemi, Servizi per gli ospiti/front office at Duomo Suites & Spa

Dear BondGirl54, many thanks for your review and we're glad you enjoyed your stay in our Hotel and particularly in the room "Nuovo Cinema Paradiso": one of the most spacious and panoramic we have. Our breakfast, fresh and daily prepared by our Giusy, is the way we like taking care of our guests early in the morning with an unforgettable view to Mount Etna. And Massimo is a top driver who likes showing the best of our beautiful island. We hope to welcome you soon again in the very baroque heart of Catania. Sincerely yours, Sergio Buscemi - Front Office Manager

The entire staff was friendly and extremely helpful in many little ways that made our stay memorable. The breakfast assembled by Guisy had an excellent array of choices and beautifully presented. She was very accomodating for early leaving before 8am and created a goody bag of fruits and snacks for our trip.

Actually, I am really sorry for the rating. The hotel is at a great location, right next to the main square, the staff very nice, private secured parking, at a cost, within 6 minute walk, great room, great bathroom, rooftop terrace (no service) with great views over the city. Nice breakfast too. So, why not 5 stars? As it is the heart of the city, it is really noisy, until late at night, and starts again at 5 am. Next, the bed is hard, like a shelf nearly. Anyway, if you use earplugs, one of the issues is solved and maybe you like a hard bed.

First, the staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful.
BUT, the condition of the hotel and our room was not of a good standard. The walls (in room and hallway) are all scuffed up. Our room had two bathrooms and in the second the shower did not work and the toilet only flushed about 1/5 of the time. Worst of all the walls of the bathroom and shower were covered in mold and mildew. Not just the kind around the caulking but it was growing through the walls! This is a health hazard (and gross) not solved with a little cleaning. These are issues that management should already be aware of and it would not have changed if I said anything at the time.
Also, the breakfast area is too small for the number of guests. One morning we were told we had to eat on the roof in the blazing hot morning sun. The breakfast itself was decent, but mostly stale left from the day before. We stayed in smaller hotels that managed to serve much fresher breakfast.

Firstly, it's expensive. However, once you cross that bridge, you'll get a nice room, and what must surely be one of the best rooftop views in the city, looking out over that beautiful cathedral at the end of the road. Excellent central location, while our room was pleasantly cool and quiet.

Great hotel! Not the absolute top of the line but we will absolutely stay here again! It's a modern and artsy style hotel but the most important aspects for us are location, cleanliness and friendliness of the staff which this "Duomo suites and spa" delivered nicely! The staff is very hospitable and the room's are spacious and clean. The bed's are better than most than we have encountered in much pricier hotels in Italy. I also had one of the best massage's ever in Europe in the spa which is great for those on the go to schedule a quick yet quality massage or other services provided. The "Duomo suites and spa" is definitely going on my "recommend" list when you visit Catania...

We spent one night here in early June. It is in a great location, only a few steps from Piazza Duomo.

They have a parking area a few blocks away, and access is through a gate which is opened with a key fob. Unfortunately, the reception desk was not staffed overnight or in the morning when we left, so that made returning the key fob for the parking a problem because the door to the hotel was locked.

I cannot comment on the breakfast. We planned to leave at 7:00 to make a winery visit. They did not have the usual buffet because of covid, and they could not accommodate our request for coffee, juice and a pastry at “such an early hour” because they told us it was “excessive.”

They upgraded our room on arrival and it was comfortable and spacious, with a large bath.

The pictures make the rooftop terrace look large, but unfortunately it was not staffed when we were there.

There was art/graffiti on the wall in our room. Translated it reads “Sicilians they will never want to improve because they consider themselves perfect. In them vanity is stronger than misery.” Possibly the motto of the property?

So many positive reviews. I guess we just caught them at a bad time.

Great location, clean, comfortable and spacious room. The hotel is just steps away from the Duomo, where there are many nice places to eat, have wine or delicious canoli. The pretty lady at reception (I forgot to get her name) gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants and local shopping. We enjoyed our time there very much.

How far is the nearest beach from here? Thank you
Answer from Katie W

Yes there is a lift, no parking, except limited street parking near the hotel. I would call and ask the front desk manager about parking, they are extremely helpful. We parked illegally on the street to unload and then returned our car to the airport, a 15 minute easy drive.
