We spent one night there, and do not regret at all. The Ippopotamo business seems to be more in the restaurants, but they have a few apartement type of rooms that serve as a fully functional hotel. The room we had was a well-furnished oversized one, included a kitchenette with a free Nespresso machine and an enormous bathroom with a... More

We had one night in Verona and my buddy and travelling companion chose the Locanda Ippopotamo. I was skeptical at first (hippopotamus hotel just didn't sound like an outstanding establishment) and my first impression wasn't great when it took us quite a while just to find the place. We didn't realize that the "hotel" is actually just a block of... More

This hotel is on Piazza Bra - we were going to the opera and it is a 3 minute walk. The entrance is through the restaurant. The first night we had an attic room, full of character tapestries and beams, two bathrooms and a small bedroom up a flight of stairs leading off the main bedroom. We had to move... More

OK, firstly this is not a hotel in the classic sense. It is a business that owns a restaurant and a fast food eatery on Piazza Bra, and has expanded into acommadation. There is no reception, no lounge or bar or usual room service. Not a problem for me. When you arrive, you make yourself known at the fast-food joint... More

My husband booked this for our last night in Italy, as our usual hotel was full. When we booked in at the restaurant in piazza bra it was a bit chaotic. On return we were taken to the room, very steep stone stairs and no lift with our luggage. The room had fantastic views of the arena and the piazza... More

Management response:

We regret that your last day of vacation in Italy has been marked by this experience In our facilities each room is decorated differently. At the moment of the booking online you had the possibility to choose in advance the style of the room, and the one that you have chosen is themed with pictures and stained glass windows depicting... We stayed here for a night and although it is not a classic hotel the rooms are well located, interestingly laid out and absolutely fine for a short break in Verona. The air conditioning was very good which was important for our visit and if you are going to the opera, it is a two minute walk to the arena.

Very efficient administration of the hotel, especially their email prior to the arrival day helped enormously by giving the guidance on how to find the place and etc. The check-in was unusual, as it is done via the restaurant Ippopotamo, however the staff were efficient. The room was clean and spacious with a complimentary provision of coffee machine and selection... More

We stayed here for 2 nights in the triple room with arena view at the ippopotamo dependance . The check in is unorthodox , but don't be worried. You go into the bar & say you want to check in & someone comes to get you. You walk along the square to the end & turn left, through a secure... More

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night inbetween Venice and Lake Garda. When you arrive you have to find a waiter and ask them to get someone as the hotel is actually around the back street but this isn't very clear. Anyway, the hotel room was clean and pleasant, we found it odd we were asked to pay... More

The photo here is the room we had - room 201. It's on the second floor with a large balcony which overlooks the Arena to your left and the city gate to your right. The room itself was plush, the spacious bathroom with duo basins, a jacuzzi bath, and a double shower with a drencher. Nadia, the manager looked after... More
