When we showed up at this hotel, which we pre-paid for, MONTHS AGO, they told us there was NO ROOM AVAILABLE for us!!! They were nonchalant about this and tried to get us to go to another hotel!! What horrible behavior!! Worse yet - looking back through reviews we now find that they do on this on a REGULAR BASIS,... More

When my husband and I were planning our trip to Venice, we had many hotels to choose from. We examined several contenders and chose Albergo Ca'Alvise based on star rating, reviews (including Trip Advisor), breakfast & other amenities, location, and photos, among other criteria. We were very excited about our stay. However, when we arrived in Venice (around 11pm- with... More

This is a small hotel. location is very good - few steps from all the attractions, but very easy to get lost. I have been in Venice several times and I always get lost - I do not mind, I like to discover. Everything was charming, service was good. People with disabilities should be aware that there is no elevator.... More

For a centrally located hotel within easy reach of the main sights this was very reasonably priced. The bedroom and bathroom were both a good size. It is true that there is no lift but even the second floor, where we stayed, wasn't a problem with hand luggage and on arrival a porter took the cases up to the room.... More

Stayed here 3 nights as part of Monogram tour. Charming small hotel, no elevator, leave your keys at the front desk when you go out. Fantastical light fixtures throughout, large Venetian chandelier over the bed. Lighting could have been brighter. Large new bathroom with a beautiful jacuzzi tub which was wonderful after a day of walking. Bed was more comfortable... More

Great Location within easy walking distance to the Rialto Bridge and San Marco --- we loved our room ( # 102 ) - well appointed and large by European standards --- regardless of some negative reviews we found the staff to be friendly, welcoming and very helpful in suggesting places to eat ( and as a result we avoided tourist... When we booked we tried to get this impossible balance of good hotel at a decent price in a central location. On arrival to Ca' Alvise it seemed like we had managed our little balance game pretty well. In Venice terms, it is decently priced (for Venice) and the room was big enough to swing a cat. The staff was... More

Small hotel that is right off the canal. I have a CPAP machine and there were no plugs by the bed. Had to plug in at the desk and make a makeshift stand with my suitcase. Staff was ok...not very helpful

Stayed 4 days in Ca' Alvise on our 2 week tour of Italy. With three couples in our group, of course we always compare our rooms. All of the rooms had its own intricate personalities, but they were small and lack counters in American standards. There were so many things to see and do in Venice that the only time... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
