My wife and I were on a 30th wedding anniversary trip around Italy (May 2011) starting with Venice. Here are some hopefully usefull tips and info for Venice. After flying in to Venice Marco Polo from London Gatwick (sit on the right hand side of the plane for views of Venice as you land) we used the Aligaluna ferry service,... More

Could not have asked for a better stay in Venice!!! The location is perfect ... out of the touristy area but an easy stroll to the sites. Ciprea was clean with unique character. Davide was an excellent host. Treated us to fresh biscuits from the local bakery for breakfast. I would definitely recommend buying a vaparetto pass. There is a... More

I liked being away from the most touristy areas, but an easy walk to St Mark's square. Also right near a vaporetto stop so very, very easy to get around. The owner Davide made us feel very comfortable. He provided a wonderful breakfast at a time that was convenient to us.

My husband and I began our Italian vacation in Venice in the end of May 2011. We stayed at Ciprea for three nights and really enjoyed it! Davide and Ciprea are very welcoming and helpful. It's about a 15 minute walk to San Marco square- we liked being away from the crowds. Our first night was in the downstairs room... More

We spent 4 days in Venice, and as a family of three on a budget, with an 11 year old boy, this accommodation was ideal for us, particularly due to the location. If you are travelling with a young family, this location is perfect. Do not be put off by the prospect of the 20 minute walk to San Marco... More

This review has taken me too long to write but I 'm finally getting around to it. I loved the Ciprea. The hosts were welcoming and the price was great what but what I loved most was the area and feeling of being in the real Venice, rather than just a touristy area. I loved the washing strung up around... More

Friendly hosts, good location, value for money and nice, clean rooms make this B&B a perfect stay in Venice. Me and my friends had a great stay here and would certainly stay here again if I go back to Venice ! It is only 5 minute walk away from the vaporetto stop and a 10 minute walk from piazza san... Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
