The owner, Nicola, was very helpful during our entire stay. He gave us simple directions for getting to Venice from the airport and then met us at the Alilguna stop and walked us the the bed and breakfast. He gave us some excellent restaurant suggestions, and general advice. Then when we were leaving he made sure that we knew what... More

First time in Venice and travelling solo! Having never been to Venice before, the vaporette from the airport seemed a daunting experience on its own - but with Nicola's advice it could not have been easier. Nicola is extremely helpful from my first email to my last few hours in Venice. I was extremley grateful for Nicola metting me at... More

It is just bed a breakfast. I was the guest of someone staying there and we stayed in the 2 room suite. I will say the suite is just 2 plain bedrooms. Nothing fancy when you hear the words suite. The breakfast is store bought pastries and Italian cold cuts, cheese and some white bread. Nicola is a lovely gentleman.... More

Nicola, the owner of the B&B, was extremely helpful with advice, suggestions and recommendations. Guests may use the coffee machine and help themselves to bread, cake, fruit, etc from the breakfast area at any time. We walked everywhere, finding that tho the Oceano Mare is well placed away from the 'tourist zone', it's just a short walk to both San... More

On my yearly visits to Venice Oceano Mare has become my place. A small residence with 4 rooms, one a two-bedroom suite, in a lovely little corner of the city. Far enough into non-tourist territory to avoid the inevitable sea of humanity; heading back in the evening after dinner or a concert is actually lonely; yet under 10 minutes walk... More

Our host Nicola met us off the Vaporetto at Arsenale. A 5 minute walk to the B&B was the start of 4 excellent nights. Good room & breakfast & suggestions from Nicola. 10 minutes walk from St. Mark's but very quiet.

Stayed here a few years (earlier than date allows) ago and we loved it! Great location, even finding it in the dark was a fun experience (though in fairness Nicola was hunting us down to meet us but we'd got off at the wrong stop!). Quiet, residential area but so close to everything Venice has to offer. A real gem!... More

We had a great time at the B&B of Nicola and his wife. We really enjoyed his perfect (24 hour) service (personal or per sms or by phone). He picked us up at Arsenale, gave us perfect advices for restaurants (our favourites: Al vecio portal, Pizzeria al fonte (try the crude pizza with mozzarella, ruccola and tomatoes), Al vecio calise... Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
