Difficult to find at first, but great location nearby St. Marks square, the Arsenale, restaurants, and overlooks a canal. Great balcony over the canal where you can watch the boats navigate their way in and out of their slips. Nice breakfast and very friendly staff.

Perfect for visiting Venice for a couple of days, friendly staff and a nice breakfast ☺ Run the water as it takes a while to warm up! When visiting Venice take as small as case as possible as it's hard work taking it round!

This is a friendly hotel at the furthest end of the main island from the Railway station; but the walk is well worthwhile and there are water busses for the faint-hearted. The rooms are fairly basic, but given the cost which was good for the city, not unacceptable. There was a comfortable sitting room where one could read or chat.... More

There are few things in life that satisfies more than a nice calm place where you can rest your legs after a days walk in a city like Venice. This hotel is such a place. Nice staff, nice rooms, okay breakfast and a nice yard to meditate in if you want to😉. - Okay, there could be softer beds (my... More

I would avoid this place if you can help it. I am not sure how it was given such great reviews. The walls have quite a few holes and the bathrooms are in terrible shape. We rarely saw any guests, but it becomes quite obvious they are there when you walk into the bathroom. The shower curtain looks like it... More

Dear Guest, thank you for your review. We would then like to explain also our point of view. We would like to start saying that we renewed a large amount of the rooms and common areas. This means, of course, also the shared bathroom. All of our rooms, and the common areas as well, are cleaned daily. We also added... More

First trip to Venice , found the hotel without too much difficulty and we were welcomed by the guy on reception, gave us a choice of two rooms, we took the smaller which was still very large. A little bit of TLC needed here and there. Also he was helpful with a map and how to get too the main... More

I was very happy to find Locanda Sant'Anna. The position is ideal. It is located in a quiet private courtyard in the 'Arsenale' region in the east of the city - far from the tourist crowds, but only a pleasant 10-15m minute walk to the busy centre of St. Marks. The staff recommended several eateries on the nearby Via Garibaldi,... More

This was a nice affordable room in the southern part of Venice. It's quite and away from all of the crazy tourist places, yet close enough for u to walk to St. Marks square. The room was comfy with a shared bathroom. The breakfast was great.

This is a wonderful find. Don't worry about the location looking on the map, we could walk to Saint Marks Sq in 15 - 20 mins. We had a room with a canal view. Our room was large, bed was OK. The Hotel is owed and operated by a wonderful couple. The breakfast was good. But you can't beat the... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
