We actually stayed at the sister hotel across the canal but booked a spa visit. Very easy to get to with a free boat ride across the canal. We booked the salt scrub / massage package and it was well worth it! The facility is very nice and the service was great. Treat yourself to a massage package here. You won’t regret it.
Caught the Alilaguna to Zitelle on the island of Giudecca. Walked to an unassuming entrance of a building, and moved through. There the magic began. I had walked into the Reception area of what I would say is the most beautiful hotel I have stayed in. It isn't all stainless steel, concrete and chrome, but, rather a grand old building with history, character and a beating heart. On one side of the entrance, was the hustle and bustle of the Giudecca Canal on the other peace and tranquility. The people working at the Reception desk treated you like an old friend, they were friendly and extremely helpful. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was on the second level, overlooking the gardens and vineyard; absolutely stunning, The room consisted of an entry, lounge, change area, vast bathroom, bedroom with king sized bed. In the evening the beds were turned down and slippers were placed at each side of the bed. The ceilings were high and consisted of timber beams, the large timber picture windows opened inwards; which allowed for the canvas blinds to be lowered to protect from the midday sun. A buffet breakfast was available in the morning, and you are able to dine in the courtyard; overlooking the magnificent gardens. The hotel also provided a free shuttle boat. BOAT! it was a beautifully crafted, luxury, highly polished timber hulled runabout. The shuttle runs every half hour from the hotel to its sister hotel on San Marco. It was my first time in Venice, San Marco is a vibrant place, but, it is also good to escape, reorganise and recuperate from the crowds; The Bauer Palladio Hotel achieved just that, it gives you breathing space and incredible views over the Giudecca Canal towards Basilica di San Marco. "A tutti al Bauer, un grande grazie"…
Beautiful, peaceful upscale hotel in Guidecca, a quick (free) boat ride away from the main island - peaceful, with great restaurants near by. The Hotel was a nunnery years ago. Wonderful to explore, sit by the fire with a glass of wine, and wind down from the busy day on the main island.
This is an excellent choice for a place to stay when visiting Venice. You are away from the noise and confusion of the Venice area, yet it is readily accessible by a complimentary water taxi right outside the front door of the hotel. The hotel is located on Giudecca Island, a five minute taxi ride from the sister Bauer Hotel in Venice. The water taxi runs every 30 minutes and drops you off at the dock at the sister hotel which is a short walk from St. Mark's square. The hotel has a large lobby area to sit and relax and a beautiful patio/lawn/garden area in the back of the hotel. We spent a couple of late afternoons before dinner enjoying the patio with friends and a bottle of wine. The staff was very attentive and frequently checked to see if we needed anything. Breakfast was good with a nice variety. Again, the staff was present constantly checking the buffet and available for any of the guest's needs. I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel.…
If you like your swanky hotels looming up all glass-fronted, modern and polished, this may not tick all your boxes. If, on the other hand, you like an historic building, exposed brick and grandeur, then you have come to the right place. Now, to be honest, we've not stayed in a five-star hotel before, so I'm not going to do one of these 'it's not quite five-star because the toilet failed to thank me for using it' sort of reviews. All I will say, is that the whole place reeks of class, from the building itself (a former home for 'attractive young girls from poor homes at risk of prostitution who at 18 could either marry or become a nun', I kid you not) to the well manicured gardens which provide a real tranquility to the place, given the much discussed crowds which swamp Venice. So let's first discuss that positioning shall we? Get off at the Zitelle vaporetto spot (on the Red Line - but not all of them so check - from Marco Polo airport) and the entrance is rather wonderfully understated in one of Venice's most recognisable buildings. Looking out over the Giudecca canal, Venice and St Mark's Campanile present themselves to you to gawp at - it really is one of the great views in the whole city. Plus you get a close-up look at those god-awful cruise ships as they dwarf the islands as they sail past. A free shuttle boat - if you're lucky enough to be the only ones using it the polished wood and white leather is all yours to enjoy - is really handy (goes every half an hour) and drops you about a five minute walk from San Marco. Giudecca itself hasn't a lot to offer, but lots of semi-reasonable restaurants line the canal (and you can always get a seat) and there's a litte (well-priced) supermarket about a 200 metre walk left ouit of the hotel. The hotel is vast inside, walls of exposed brick lead you through the reception, past the courtyard and enormous communal lounge. The rooms (and we weren't in one of the fancy ones) were well decorated and ours had a view (to the side) of the canal itself . Lovely. Bathroom was huge and spotless. My only two gripes...the shower felt like it could do with a descale as some of the water shot over the edge and, for a very warm October week, the air-con was only set to warm the room up further...which you only realise when it is becomes stiffling. Yes, there's no coffee facilities in your room, but having been to a few places in Italy I suspect they don't go in for that as Rome and Sorrento (and a previous Venice hotel) also didn't allow you to top up your caffeine levels in your room. But if that spoils a trip to Venice for you, there may be nothing you're quite satisfied with. Staff were always helpful and friendly, and the ability to eat breakfast outside overlooking the gardens and watch the sun burning off the early morning mist (in October!) was one of the real highlights. As previously mentioned, you'll not go hungry with the high quality breakfast. It may all be very different if the weather is unkind, but on a wonderfully warm, sunny week in October, this hotel may prove hard to beat as your refuge from the millions of tourists on the main island.…
