You cannot go wrong when choosing this place to stay in Venice. It is absolute peace and you can smell the cleanliness. The location is absolutely brilliant. When coming by vaporetto, the stop is Zattere and it´s a 3-minute walk to the hotel. Walking distance to everywhere and you are not in the middle of the noise, but just perfectly... More

We stayed in Don Orione for three nights. Our triple room was enormous with comfortable beds for each of us, a well appointed bathroom, and quiet. It is a bit of a bare bones hotel, but not in a cheap way. It is just a simple church-sponsored hotel that is clean, quiet, and comfortable. The location is fantastic. I plan... More

From beginning to end, the welcome at Don Orione was amazing. The staff (reception, breakfast and cleaners) were so patient and friendly, despite our lack of fluency in Italian. Great location, within walking distance of several lovely bridges, restaurants and piazze. The room was spacious and clean, with a great view of the quiet cloister/ courtyard. One morning we saw... This is a clean, quiet, reasonably priced place to stay. Located near the Academia bridge between the Grand Canal and the Canale della Giudecca, it is close to several Zattere stations. It was a monastery, so don't expect exciting, but the rooms are nice sized and everything is up to date.

My two friends and I stayed here two nights before heading to Croatia for a week of biking on The Tarin. Our room was spacious with three beds and ample room for luggage. Breakfast was a wonderful international experience. Unlimited cappuccino, cheeses and breads. Very convenient location.

For our first overseas trip, our family of four went to Italy in June 2014. Venice is known for overpriced and overdecorated and often noisy hotels. I was having a tough time finding something that would allow us all to quickly adjust to the nine hour time change. We were able to snag four single beds - perfect for sleeping... More

Spent 2 nights here recently on business, located close to the Ca' Foscari University and Academia bridge area. Very handy for water bus stops. Lovely clean room, sparse, but comfy, good shower, a plug-in mosquito repellent machine was provided, but I didn't really need it during my stay. Good but basic breakfast. Not exactly inexpensive, but nice and just far... More

We were able to check in early to a wonderful room with a courtyard view. The setting was serene, the room and public areas were spotless. Located about three minutes from the Zattere vaporetto and water taxi stops, you'd be hard pressed to find a more convenient location. Well situated in Dorsodura, steps away from Gesuati, and a short stroll... More

One of my all-time favourite hotels. Situated between Academia and Zattere it is in a perfect location to explore Venice. Beautifully clean, quiet and somewhat spartan (no TV) with large rooms and pleasant bathrooms (poor towels). This is a Christian Foundation and the guests tend to be academics and/or people on conferences with cultural interests, thus there are no rowdy... More

This is my second time here in 4 months and I LOVE it. The location is great as it is not a far walk to the Rialto, San Marco and much more, yet it is still in a quiet part of Venice. The staff are lovely and friendly and the rooms are simple and very clean. This property is a... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
