My husband and I stayed in the Ca' delle Ancore apartment while our friends stayed in the Ca' Alexander B&B, in October 2012. The Castello was the perfect area to stay in and the street where our accomodation was fanstastic. Lined with everything you could ever need this street was quiet, clean and the sight of people walking their dogs...

A fantastic apartment, spacious for our family of four (two children), they loved collecting the fresh breakfast placed at the bottom of the stairs each morning. It was quiet, clean, modern, with a wonderful terrace with great views overlooking Venice and the daily street life below, just out of the crowded centre of Venice but within easy walking distance to...

We stayed for three nights during late October, in apartment Ca' delle Ancore located on Via Garibaldi. A wide street, unusual for Venice, not touristy at all, but still a very historic area, and a nice quiet retreat. A perfect apartment for four adults and two children, clean and well decorated. It was in a great position, overlooking the canal,...

We stayed at this apartment because of its location to the Benniale - we were traveling with our 4 year old and didn't want to walk too far, and it was perfect. The owners/family were gorgeous and so helpful - the breakfast lovely - and the terrace a perfect spot to sit and watch the sunset with a glass of...

I had to make a very speedy booking, as I needed to take my Mother and 2 children to my Aunty's funeral in Venice within 24 hours. I only found this B&B by accident as I looked at Google maps. I knew I wanted to stay within the Via Garibaldi area, as I needed access to Venice Lido and found...

We recently returned from a wonderful four night stay at the Ca' Alexander B&B in Venice. Everything promised on the website was accurate. We traveled with a family of 4 including two grown children. The sleeping arrangements were very comfortable and the fresh brioche in the morning was lovely. We especially enjoyed the location in the Castello neighborhood of Venice....

A really lovely apartment. Stayed there for the opening of the Biennale at the beginning of June this year and could not have had a more perfect location for the Jardeneri. It is very spacious and bright but the selling point is the large balcony overlooking the Via Garrabaldi and the fabulous views up the lagoon. It was quite startling...

We chose this apartment because of its location, on the Via Garibaldi, & found that we had made a great choice. The owners were very welcoming & provided a good breakfast every morning which included fruit juice, yogurt, rolls & pastries. Tea & coffee making facilities were included in the kitchen. The apartment is lovely, although if you have trouble...

We stayed in Ca Alexander's other apartment, Ca dell'Ancore, for a week in May 09. The Castello area was a great choice - a scenic 10min walk along the waterfront to Piazza San Marco and the main tourist area, plus wonderful things to see and do in Castello itself. And ... not a lot of tourists - what a relief!...

This review is for the apartment, which is on a different location than the B&B, but run by the same owners. We found it to be perfect for our needs. The apartment consists of a large bedroom with a large, very firm bed (I think it was a Cal King) and a twin-size bed (which we did not use), a...

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

“If you don't like lots of stairs then choose the Ca' delle Ancore. The Ca' Alexander B&B while having a great balcony and spectacular view is a bit of a climb with heavy luggage.”
