The hosts were very hospitable. Breakfast was eggcellent- fresh omelettes, espresso etc. The room was small but the location can't be beat and it was quiet! The roof top terrace was a nice touch. A two minute walk to St Marks! Shopping and restaurants are steps away. Convenient when you arrive by Vappotetto (sp), water bus or taxi! Just a... More

It's just behind the new prison of doge's palace, very close to the bridge of sighs, hence you get the best spot to take pictures of the bridge without a lot of tourists around. 3 min walk to St. Mark Square, 5 min walk to the water bus stop St. Mark-San Zaccaria where you take route 1 and 2 to... Booked this hotel and found it had everything we needed. So centrally located (two mins walk from the main square). Free brekky. Clean. Modern (loved the automated blinds). And that shower with six side jets!!! So good. Would suit a couple (in one bed) plus one other on the single bed slightly separated from the main bedroom. Definitely recommended and... More

It's hard to get anything more centrally located that is quiet! It is literally tucked behind the Doge's palace on a narrow street. you are near everything! All the sites, water taxis, gondola rides are footsteps away. Rooms are clean and modern, small, but well laid out. Our room had a little terrace and a Jacuzzi( handy after walking all... More

We booked this hotel very last minute based upon reviews from Trip Advisor. Since our stay was short, we were willing to wing it and hope for the best thinking we wouldn't spend much time in the hotel if we didn't like it. Well...the surprise was on us! We LOVED it! The location is unbeatable (only one pedestrian bridge to... More

This hotel is tucked away in a very narrow lane way. We missed it coming from the north side of the street. If you just got off the water bus, go left pass the first bridge and look for a narrow street. Hotel name is displayed on your left. This place is tiny, two rooms per floor, and each room... More

We stayed 4 nights in the Sole apartment, which is located in the building on the opposite side of the alley of the hotel. The apartment was very nice and well equipped with a full kitchen, and has a terazze with a beautiful view of the Palazzo Ducale and tower of Piazza Marco. A warning the apartment is on the... More

This is a charming little hotel, centrally located down a quiet little alley. However, our room was so tiny! Barely enough room to walk around and not much room for our suitcases. It was clean and had a roomy shower and a modern bathroom, comfy bed. Would recommend springing for one of their larger rooms. Breakfast was delicious, omelettes made... More

The apartment is close to major attractions and is very clean and well furnished. Would have preferred a second bathroom and more comfortable second bed but overall well worth the price considering the location.

The location is ideal for easy access to vaporetto and St marks square and doges palace. The hotel staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast included delicious cappuccino and an omelette. There is a rooftop terrace which we enjoyed.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
