We stayed at this lovely place for the first three nights of our month long honeymoon in Italy. What a fabulous place .. The canal view room, overlooking the oldest bridge in Venice, was quaint and clean, the breakfasts in the garden were great, especially the coffee!! We loved the location .. easy walking distance to everywhere but away from... More

I came to this hotel on a recommendation and could not be happier. My experience from booking to checking out has been a breeze. The walk from the vaporetto station was very very easy. I recommend this hotel to new and seasoned travelers! Mattia was wonderful and extremely knowledgable of non touristy places to eat and visit. Again I suggest... More

We stayed in Ponte Chiodo for 4 nights and found the accomodation to be fantastic. It located just a short walk to the waterstop Ca D'Oro and most of the attractions in Venice. But what makes this stand out from some of the others, is the host Mattia, as he goes out of his way to make you feel at... More

We stayed in room 5 for four nights. Comfortable bed, large wardrobe, quiet ac, well appointed bathroom. We arrived by waterbus from the airport, it's about a 5 min walk. An emailed code gets you into the garden and then keys get you into the room. Breakfast is a simple continental affair including child meats and cheeses, fruit, yogurts etc... More

Stayed here for two nights with my girlfriend. Arrived to a picturesque garden with clear instructions regarding our room and breakfast etc. Mattia (the host) was very friendly and gave us lots of tips on how to see all of Venice. Breakfast was a delight to have in the garden and a great way to start the day- especially the... More

We spent 4 nights at 3749 Ponte Chido and it was fabulous! On walking through the gate into the pretty garden it felt like a world away from the bustle of the busy streets and canals around it. The owner, Mattia, was there to greet us as was his son who was completing his homework! Seeing their relationship and how... More

This stay was absolutely lovely. The host Mattia was awesome. His very detailed instructions made finding the place a breeze, and you could tell he was very well organized and paid close attention to detail so that staying there was a comfortable experience. It's a lovely bed and breakfast, not a hotel, but a guest-house. The room and bathroom were... More

Rule number 1: Venice is not only San Marco square. We stayed at 3748 Ponte Chiodo for 3 nights when in Venice. The B&B is very central located but in a very quit street. With the help of Mattia you'll discover Venice like never before. Eat where the locals eat, drink in a Birreria and avoid the very very touristic... More

Fantastic location, easy to walk from the Fondamente Nuove Alilaguna stop, only a couple of bridges. We could not believe how peaceful it was, but within 15 mins walk of San Marco. The room was traditionally decorated with antique furniture and an impressive chandelier, and had a modern, spotless bathroom. Breakfast was served in the garden and it having informed... More

A beautifully located and delightful guest house, with a little garden and courtyard. The owner, Mattia is wonderful- so helpful with suggestions of the best things to see and do and places to eat. This is a great base for a Venetian holiday and you really are among Venetians and away from the touristy areas. Beautiful walks nearby, picturesque canals and... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As our guests write: "A home away from home. Quiet, clean, convenient and very welcoming. Excellent location off the beaten track but still close to everything, located in not touristic and alive Cannaregio's district. If you are looking for lavish 4/5 stars Hotel with huge rooms furnished with fake baroque golden furniture please move on. If you visualize small bridges crossing the little canal outside your window, vine covered walls surrounding a patio and small garden and cappuccino every morning, then this is the place for you! The rooms are cozy and comfortable, their furniture original antique and well refurbished... Remember this is an old, Venetian home. No gyms. No pools. But a nice patio to enjoy breakfast or an evening glass of wine and cheese. You may also have the opportunity to meet some nice people from almost anywhere. The Venetian owner suggests local small restaurants and hidden itineraries through the wonderful unknown Venice". ... more   less
