Loved its location in the small narrow street, where we didn't expect. Small but well managed and designed hotel with warm hospitality and service. We enjoyed our stay. Dining at nearby restaurants were nice as they opened till the late hours.

This was a nice little hotel close to St. Mark's Square, but off the beaten path. We were provided with detailed, accurate instructions to find them, so they were easy to locate. The room was small, clean and had everything we needed. The lady at the desk was helpful and friendly. I would stay there again, if I return to...

Since Venice is old, choosing a good hotel with a good price was hard. Our stay here was decent. Best price we could find. Only 5 rooms on the second floor. Didn’t feel like a hotel – felt like we were staying on the upstairs of someone’s home. The room was as pictured. The wifi was good. We arrived at...

This place was a hidden gem 5 minutes away from Piazza San Marco. It is tucked away in one of the smaller streets but a great location indeed. Before our arrival the owner emailed instruction on how to enter the building since my arrival time was a bit late and provided us with lots of information regarding how to get...

Located down a small alley this hotel was in a good location. We were close to St Marks square. The hotel emailed us the week before our arrival with specific directions on how to find the hotel which were very useful given GPS in the city of Venice only works 50% of the time and can't capture all the little...

Set back from the grand canal but only 5 mins from St Marks square, this is perfect for those wanting to explore the heart of Venice. All clean, good facilities, warm & friendly welcome, with charming authentic Venetian decor. Can be noisy in the morning, as it's set amongst bars & restaurants & storage units, but we felt it added...

The Locanda Cavanella is a small sweet little place. Under 10 rooms, good location, clean & friendly staff. My husband & I started our two week Italy trip at this hotel. I had emailed before our arrival to get best directions based on our travel from the airport. Selena replied with very detailed directions & said to call if we...

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
