I stayed at the hotel Al Gazzettino with my partner for four nights, and I was absolutely delighted with the stay! The location is amazing, and is right beside San Marco Square, as well as the Rialto Bridge. There are so many great restaurants and cafes nearbye, and you can literally walk in any direction when you leave the hotel...

Going to Venice, I was adamant about having a Venetian hotel and not some chain hotel I could stay at anywhere in the US and I got that here! Staff was fabulous and our room was great. We were on top floor with no elevator but I knew that when I booked. Its Venice - if your expecting a modern...

Very good! A bit noisy sometimes because the walls and floors are vert thin but no noise from outside (quiet neighboorhood and good windows). No breakfast possibilities but typical venetian rooms, very clean and modern bathroom.

The room was clean and large enough. Helpful staff, perfect location for planning your time efficiently. They were very responsive and detailed when we needed help with transportation. No elevator, so if you are afraid of stairs, contact the hotel beforehand.

We stayed at this hotel in September. The location was good but thats the only positive point. We had to carry our luggages to the last floor using stairs as the hotel doesn't have elevator! Our room was really old looking and dirty. They even didn't bother to change the toilet seat after a decade of use!! During our stay...

We booked this place for a special anniversary. We had come here on our honeymoon and had a room overlooking a canal. So we wanted to have a great experience again. As their website advertised that the rooms overlook the canal (quote from website: "The rooms, with bathroom and air conditioning, overlook a typical Venetian canal, along which our guests...

This place was such a delicious surprise. Our room was large and very decadently decorated with gilt and red drapes (we had to have a "selfie photo shoot" as soon as we arrived!). Staff were really friendly and helpful. And such an amazing location in the middle of everything. We could lean out our window and watch the Gondolas float...

Our hotel room was quite big and extremely clean! Although we barely spent anytime in there, I was happy with the price I paid for the room. This location is great because everything is closeby within 5 minutes. I would definitely recommend this place for first timers in venice.

This hotel is set between San Marco and Rialto within few minutes of each so has the best location. We had booked a superior room but to our pleasant surprise we were upgraded to a luxury suite. Very nice. Room was large and spacious. Had a small balcony overlooking a canal. Generally quiet except in the morning when goods are...

We happened upon this wee restaurant by accident. Not elegant in decor. Very eclectic. But the food...OMG! Everything was fresh and delish. The gentleman server was crazy funny and even gave me a bag of their pasta to take home. Good wine too.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
