Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

We thoroughly enjoyed exploring Venice as part of a 3 day stopover and Hotel Palazzo Vitturi provided the perfect base. The hotel is in an excellent location, only a 20 minute walk from the train station and within a 5 minute walk of the Rialto, San Marco square and the Fondamente Nove Port (with access to the islands of Murano and Burano). In addition, the hotel overlooks a lovely open square with great views from the balcony overlooking Santa Maria Formosa church. The room retained the classic Venetian feel but had all the comfortable modern features you’d expect (Safe, TV, fridge, hairdryer, plenty of plug sockets, good WiFi, coffee machine), with comfortable beds and a decent sized bathroom. One of the main draws of the hotel, other than the reasonable price, was the gluten free options at breakfast. There was gluten free bread, chocolate croissants, waffles, cake and biscuits, and although they did run out of some of these things on our third day, it was certainly one of the most comprehensive GF breakfast offerings I have ever had in a hotel. The staff were helpful and attentive throughout and we able to answer any questions we had. All of the above came at a price that was cheaper than many of the surrounding hotels, leaving us with a very positive and satisfying experience and we would thoroughly recommend the hotel to anyone!

Great location, near to St Marks Square, but away from the bustle. Friendly, helpful staff at the hotel with tips on how to travel and experience Venice. We had a big, air conditioned room with lovely en suite, but no shower gel, so remember to take your own! Plenty selection for breakfast and complementary area with facilities to freshen up and leave your belongings, so you can continue to explore on your last day, if you have a later flight. The biggest challenge is climbing your stairs to rooms, as they are quite steep, but give you a good workout, however there is a stair lift to sit on if needed. I would definitely be happy to return here on my next stay to Venice👍

The hotel was a perfect location to stay in Venice. Just removed enough from the crowds of tourists but within mins. of walking to all the must see sights. The staff went above and beyond in making our daughter's 18th bday special. Needing water taxis, gondola rides or directions the staff quickly had us off and running. I will definitely return !!!

Just returned from a fantastic weekend break in Venice. Hotel Palazzo Vitturi is located in a beautiful square, that is just an 8 minute walk to St Mark's and is about a 12 minute walk to the closest ferry terminal. The staff were all really friendly, we had prosecco on ice to greet us in the room when we checked in (I presume this was because it was my husband's 40th, but could as standard? - either way a lovely welcome). Even before we arrived the communication was fantastic! The rooms are decorated in a Venetian style, with a comfortable bed. This isn't a 5 star hotel, but is great value for money and an ideal base to return to after exploring the city. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty on offer, even for my coeliac husband. Highly recommend the coffee! Thank you Palazzo Vitturi for a memorable weekend break. Would definitely stay here again!

Everything from the booking to the stay was fantastic. The hotel had a 4/5 star feel. It was well presented, with charm and character and immaculately clean, we had a spacious room. The central location was close to the major sites and transport links. The hotel is situated in a large sunny square with some quality bars and restaurants very close by. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, their excellent local knowledge helped firm up our itinerary. We were visiting Venice as part of a birthday celebration of which the staff made our stay and Venice experience very special and memorable. Thank you to all the staff at Palazzo Vitturi.
