We stayed in the suite and it was georgous! The bathroom was modern and glamerous with a jacuzzi bath and a colour therapy shower! A fantastic location, very peaceful and nothing disturbed us in the night! The only problem was the breakfast, not much of a choice and the croissant was hard, we ended up quite hungry after it. We... More

We have stayed here before and came back again, which says a lot because I don't consider myself particularly easy to please. This time Paolo was away for the first two days and he should be very pleased that standards did not drop at all in his absence. Everyone was friendly, polite and helpful, as they are when he is... We stopped in this wonderful hotel for three nights in July and found it to be faultless.it is ideally situated, about a quarter of a mile from the train station, overlooking a canal, on the tourist route. We didn't need to take a single boat or gondola whilst there because of this. We had a suite overlooking the canal and... More

My wife and I enjoyed our 4 nights at the Ca' Dogaressa. It's in a quiet part of Venice with more locals and away from the tourists but still about 5 minutes away from the main through fare between the train station and San Marco. It is a good reprieve as San Marco can be a zoo. It's about 3-4... More

This hotel was absolutely stunning! We were fortunate enough to stay in the junior suite with canal view and it was incredible! I would highly recommend that room to anyone staying because it has three large windows with a direct, jaw-dropping view to the canal. The room was extremely clean, had solid wifi and was decorated in traditional Venetian style.... More

This family owned hotel is extremely charming. It is located in Cannaregio, very near to the old Jewish ghetto. The people running the hotel are very friendly and speak English well. The accommodations exceeded our expectations for the price. We were a group of three students spending the weekend in Venice. Our room had two twin beds and a fold... More

I visited Venice in July 2016 with my wife. We stayed for two nights in Venice, before heading out for a night near Valdobbiadene, and they back into Venice before catching our flight. The hotel is in a lovely area (Cannaregio Canal), near the train station but just off the really busy tourist path that takes everyone from the station... More

Friends had stayed here previously and highly recommended this hotel. It met all expectations. The rooms were very nice and breakfast on the canal was a real treat. The hotel was convenient to walk to from the train station. We will definitely stay here on our next trip to Venice.

My husband and I truly enjoyed every aspect of our comfortable stay at the Hotel Ca' Dogaressa. Each member of the staff was kind, courteous and helpful. The room and bath were spotless and spacious, and the bed quite comfortable. Not sure why this charming B/B is listed as a 3-star hotel -- deserves a 4-star rating.

Located just a few steps from both the Guglie water taxi stop and the entrance to the Jewish Ghetto, this place is perfectly situated if you want to make your home base in Cannaregio. It is in a very quiet area so there is no late-night noise from revelers coming back from wherever they were touring. The place is intimate... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
