San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

We both had the pleasure of staying with Eleonora for a week away from the London smoke in 2019. Eleonora was very welcoming and went out of her way to make us feel at home. Her knowledge of Venice is very good and she offered highly useful information to enable us to navigate around the Labyrinthine streets of Venice. She was particularly attentive to the needs of my deaf friend Stephen and made every effort to communicate with him effectively. The location itself is ideally situated not too far from St. Mark's Square and the rooms are very comfortable and well maintained. The breakfasts Eleonora prepared were always fresh and delicious and she was always on hand at the start of each day to provide any help or information.

Our stay with Eleanora at Al Teatro was one of our most memorable stays when we travelled Italy. Eleanora is a local, a true venetian who happily and enthusiastically gave us information about Venice that allowed us to have a truly authentic experience. Her recommendations for places to eat, shop and tour were perfect. From our window we could see and hear the magic of the canals, the sound of gondoliers literally below us was magical! The Theatre is literally on her door step.

Wow! This place is amazing! What a find! Such a cute spot overlooking the canal, tucked among the gorgeous twisting paths of Venice. Great Central location, while outside the tourist mayhem. Our window literally looked out onto the canal! The host is wonderful, with a delicious breakfast and advice for places to eat and visit. Photo is the view from our window.

My family and I stayed with Eleonora at her beautiful B&B. We had a wonderful time. Eleonora was an amazing hostess and provided us with so much help and advice. Her invaluable knowledge of the area and willingness to share this with us was one of the reasons why we enjoyed our stay so much. Her property was extremely Clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The location was wonderful - quiet yet only moments to the main sights. Breakfast was fresh, plentiful and very enjoyable. We loved our view of the canal and hearing the gondoliers sing as they punted along was a highlight every day. Thank you Eleonora - next time we come back to Venice we will definitely stay with you.

The location of B&B Al Teatro is like made of dreams. Opposite the most famous opera of Venice, the room we stayed had a direct view to a canal and one could wake up listening to the songs of the gondolieri and could watch all the action from above. The b&b is housed in an old palazzo which feels like home and makes for a most authentic Venetian experience. Our host, Eleonora, was most welcoming, preparing a lovely breakfast everyday, and providing us with many insider informations about Venice and places to visit. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in a central location in Venice, while experiencing an authentic Venetian hospitality in a historic ambience. We will definitely revisit!
