My daughter and I spent the Thursday through Saturday morning before Carnevale here, and loved it. Despite its very central location, our terrazzo room overlooked a side street and was entirely quiet. Our gentilissimo host carried our bags up on arrival, and his darling daughter carried one of them down when we left a few hours after checkout. (She wanted...

We stayed here for a night and we loved the rooms they are big and very clean, they help with the luggage storage after checkout so you get few more hours to walk around in venice. Very friendly staff gave a lot of suggestions on restuarants, Highly recommend this place

First off, it took two hours of wondering around from the waterbus at the Marco Polo stop to find this place. No one knew where it was, even the Tourist Information office was no help. Once we finally arrived it look the employee 10 minutes to help out even though he knew we were waiting to check in. When he...

The hotel is located very centrally, minutes walk from the Ponte di Rialto (most famous bridge), with a lot of great restaurants and shopping nearby. The room was very clean and looked like it had been recently renovated. It was spacious and comfortable. There was no kettle in the room, but upon asking the management, they immediately provided one for...

My husband and I stayed at this quaint Bed and Breakfast for 1 night. The host Luca was very nice, stored our luggage while we explored Venice during the day. Gave us tips where to go for a gondola ride and a map of Venice. Our room was big and spacious but on the street side. Not that it bothered...

The price was right and the room was spacious for a family of four. The manager was very kind and helped us to bring our lugagge to the 3rd floor. There is no lift but you shouldn't pack much to come to Venice as the cobblestones and bridges make it hard to walk. The location is perfect, 5 min to...

This little hotel was perfect for our two night stay in Venice. Only a few minutes from Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square. Not easy to find in the alley entrance but the directions were great and since it is on a small alley it is quiet. The restaurant across the alley was excellent as well. Our room was comfortable...

Location was excellent, only 5 minutes walk to the Rialto's bridge and San Marco. Room was oldish but still very clean and comfy. Service was best ever! Luca (the hotel owner) was so helpful and nice. Breakfast was okey and tasty but not everything special.

I have worked in the hospitality trade for over 10 years and had a fantastic time staying at the Locanda Ai Barteri. The location is fantastic just a five minute walk to the Rialto Bridge and to San Marco in the opposite direction. Luca is a delight and his customer service skills incredibly impressive. The business is very personal to...

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
