We’ve just returned from a two night, three day break and have been ever so impressed by this place. Cinzia, the host, was fantastic and extremely helpful, welcoming us, providing overviews of her ‘must sees’, listing her favourite restaurants and bars etc. We would highly recommend staying here.

The old palace is old and the host has done her best to be sympathetic to the history whilst modernising the rooms and bathrooms. I really can’t understand the negative review I’ve read on here - it’s Venice! It’s old! (Ps I saw one rat and that wasn’t anywhere near the hotel... but it’s to be expected, given the waterways etc.).

Breakfast was included and was a quite extensive continental - breads, meats, pastries, yogurt, fruit, cereal and a selection of teas and coffees... all wonderfully presented and hosted by Cinzia.

In summary, we would highly recommend this as a place to stay. So close to San Marco and other sites yet nicely tucked away from the large crowds.

Such a beautiful entrance and you walk into a hall with iron gates, marble and wood decor. This gave such a euphoric time warp into the past. The family room is clean and decorated with the personality of Venice. The hostess is such a warm big hearted lady and made me feel right at home. She truly made our stay extra comfortable and accommodating to our needs. The continental breakfast served was a hearty spread of pastries, fruit, cheeses and deli selects. Our room Zen was well equipped with teas, coffees, iron, hair dryer and toiletries. I will never forget Venice. IN LOVE!!

We planned a visit to the beautiful city of Venice recently and stayed at a beautiful Bed and Breakfast called La Porta D'Oriente. This building dates back in history to the 15th century, our room was called Zen, beautifully and tastefully designed with oriental chinese tea and an espresso machine. La Porta D'Oriente is more than a bed and breakfast, its staying in a building that will cast you back in time, a discerning property that will not disappoint you and no request is ever a problem. Finally, the breakfast was truly delicious from fresh warm pastries, cheeses and antipasta through to fresh fruit, a really perfect start to your day. Highly recommended bed and breakfast, we will most definately rebook for our return visit!

This is a B&B in a former palace overlooking the Campo Santa Maria Formosa, just as the address says. When we arrived in the Campo you could NOT miss the building because there was a massive red banner declaring the former palace on the building!

The B&B has three themed rooms. We spent three nights in the "Oriental" themed room. This has a futon style queen sized bed and as a result it is very low to the ground, so people who have troubles with joints might want to try a different room. The room was clean, spacious, had a modern en-suite shower and toilet, and a key party piece was air-conditioning...a serious God-send!

It is located no more than 5 minutes walk to San Marco and in the sort-of opposite direction about 5-6 minutes to the Rialto bridge, so the location is nigh-on perfect to explore the medeval parts of Venice and see the sights. A gondola launch is right outside the B&B, but there are many other place you can go nearby to book one if one wishes.

Be sure to ask Cinzia about her favorite resaurants! She knows what she is talking about and they are worth a visit. They will not be easy to spot until you are on top of them though because the restaraunts the locals frequent are often under-stated.

Breakfast is continental style, as advertised, and taken in the grand front room overlooking the Campo. The breakfast does the trick and is a fine continental breakfast, the real party piece is the front room where you are having it!

There are not many rooms in this B&B so I'm not sure we would be able to re-book it when we return to Venice, but it will certainly be the FIRST place I look.

The air conditioning was extremely important because of the fact that people walk upon the narrow street below until late at night, then tradesmen bring in goods by cart early in the morning. All of this makes noise such that the windows need to be closed at night. (Also, Venice does have hungry mosquitoes...a lot of them.) However, these are problems ALL centrally located Venitian B&B's will have, La Porta D'Oriente dealt with them very well.

There was a bad review on here by people who hated the stairs (there is no elevator) and the Breakfast (It wasn't a cooked breakfast). I believe this was an unfair review in the extreme and such people really ought to reconsider any trip they might take to the old-town of such European cities. A great deal of their charm is preserved precisely by keeping features that elevators and other mod-cons tend to destroy.

The first few days of our honeymoon was spent at this delightful B&B, Cynthia was an exceptional host - very polite, friendly and helpful. She made our stay all the better. The rooms were breath-taking, absolutely lovely and of course very clean and maintained. Would definitely recommend staying here and if I ever visit Venice again I shall certainly be staying here!
