Our room was on the second floor. No elevators so be prepared to carry your luggage up two flights of stairs. We arrived early in the morning and our room would not be ready until 1 PM. We were allowed to deposit our luggage, use a restroom and use the internet. We did run into a problem upon returning to... More

Had never been to Venice before and when looking for a hotel found there were loads there. Hard to pick the 'right one'. Looked at the reviews on the Hotel Locanda Salieri and found it mostly positive. I wasn't disappointed when I got there. Firstly the gentleman who greeted us was very nice and extremely helpful. Very good English too.... More

The hotel is located at a very convenient location, literally 3 minutes walk from Piazza le Roma station where you can get all kinds of transport but also 15 minutes away from Rialto in case you want to walk. Staff was quite helpful in anything we asked them. Room was clean and the bed was nice.

I travelled last week for business. In the high season it was almost impossible to find a decent lodging with reasonable price. Thanks to Tripadvisor reviews, I opted for Locanda Salieri and it was a perfect pick. Located in the vicinity of Piazzale Roma - transport hub of Venice, literary stone a way from the bus terminals and vaporetto stations,... More

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights after finishing a cruise in Venice. The journey from the cruise terminal was tricky only because we had too much luggage... Hotel was just off the main transport hub for Venice, Pizzale Roma where you can get everywhere from and get back too easily... It was actually in a quiet little backwater which... More

Very nice hotel, very clean and the prices are good. Few things why it's not excellent are: poor breakfast and problems with water on the 3rd floor (I believe when someone takes shower on other floors - water can't make it to arrive to the third floor). Everything else is great, very positive experience! Highly recommended.

The hotel is in a great location and clean!! The staff was so kind.. the breakfast was good! You can find a lot of shops and restaurants near to the hotel. The negative is there is no elevator and you can hear all the noise from it's room..

This hotel was in a wonderful location (near the train station and Piazza di Roma) for a reasonable price. The host was accommodating and had a supply of guidebooks to borrow. My only complaint was that the air conditioning did not work too well.

This hotel was perfectly located in the Piazzale Roma area. We took the city bus from the airport to the Piazzale Roma stop, and walked less than 5 minutes to the hotel. The room was not fancy, but was clean and comfortable, especially for the price. The owner (Luca?) was very helpful and also works the restaurant next door. We... More

This small, comfortable hotel was in a perfect location. Within easy walking distance of the train station and PIe Roma vaporetti stop, we still felt like we were away from the bustle of San Marco and other more 'touristy' areas of Venice. It was fun to explore the charming sestierres of Santa Croce, San Polo and Dorsoduro on foot from... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
