My husband and I recently stayed 3 nights at this wonderful hotel. It deserves 4.5 stars in my opinion = excellent service in all areas, pristinely clean, and great location. We stayed in the Junior Suite Gonzaga which is on the 2nd floor overlooking the magnificent Grand Canal. The room is over 550 square feet, beautifully decorated, and has 2...

My sister and I had made reservations prior to arriving in Venice at a sister property of the Foscari Palace...the Doge Antica Hotel...spelling could be off a bit. We arrived at the hotel only to be told we did not have a room...but would be sent to the Foscari Palace and would be upgraded free of charge to the Junior...

Our brief stay in magical Venice was enhanced by the wonderful Foscari Palace Hotel. Room was very comfortable and clean, staff were unfailingly gracious and polite. Thursday afternoon chamber music in the lobby was an unexpected delight! Breakfast was excellent. Location was perfect...a very short walk to C'a d'Oro vaporetto stop, and a lovely neighborhood with pleasant shops and cafes...

We had two rooms in the Foscari Palace in late July, early August '05 (five days). Of the three hotels in Italy I chose through TripAdvisor (the Dei Mellini in Rome, excellent, and the Hotel Pierre in Florence, good, were the others), this was the best. The location is great, right on the Grand Canal about five minutes walk from...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Foscari Palace. It is a beautiful hotel with excellent service. The location is excellent as well. The extra touches they provide make this hotel special. For example - complimentary fruit or snack baskets, a rose given to me on the final day of our stay etc. This hotel really made us feel special....

August 23/05- We just returned from a two week vacation to Europe and we stayed two nights at this absolutely gorgeous hotel! The room is very spacious, modern and comfortable. The bathroom is quite lavish and we were supplied with bathrobes. We had a bit of a mix up on arrival. The hotel had booked a superior double room for...

August 2005 - The Foscari Palace in Venice is a first class, elegant hotel with a very friendly, professional, and capable staff. We had a "superior triple" room that had windows overlooking the Grand Canal. Very nice. The room had two twin beds and a comfortable fold up, twin size bed. The size of the room was above average for...

My wife and I just returned from 3 nights at the Foscari Palace. What a wonderful hotel! We stayed in a junior suite which came with a nice sitting area, king size bed and beautifully appointed bathroom. Everything about the hotel was classy without being stuffy. There was lots of marble and granite, fresh carpets, pretty bannisters, etc. They served...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

“We were in room 108 and we had more of a street view than canal view as advertised. We only saw a small portion of the canal from our room. However, go up to the rooftop terrace for the best views of the canal!”

“If you are traveling by train, it is worthwhile to get a Vaporetto (water taxi) pass. You can take the Vaporetto from the train station to the stop at Ca d'Or which is just around the corner from the hotel. The Vaporetto is much easier way to get to the hotel instead of carrying suitcase on the cobblestones and up/down bridges. ”
