This hotel was our big splurge for our 4 days in Venice. It was a palatial room and bath overlooking the Grand Canal and the fish market. We really liked the location as it was easy to get to pretty much everything. The staff at the desk and in the breakfast room were very helpful. The only downside for me...

The hotel and staff were excellent. Location is great. They did not have Ac on so had to sleep with windows open And it's very noisy. The grand canal has large boats that run all night and the bar across the canal played very loud music till after midnight. Sleeping with windows open allowed biting bugs in. Overall it's a...

My husband and I had just finished a 7 day cruise and were spending a night in Venice afterwards. We took the Vaporetto waterbus from St. Lucia station (line 1). Once you get off at the CA' D'ORO stop. Once at the stop, head down ally, turn right on main road, and then 1st right into a nook (gondola stop...

The room was one of the nicest I've stayed in - massive comfy bed, great bathroom with a bath, loads of space. The location is also ideal - we walked all over Venice and it's so easy to get to the main attractions, but also to venture further out and see some 'real' Venice. The breakfast was good, with cakes,...

Our stay at Foscari Palace exceeded our expectations from the moment we landed at their dock from Marco Polo airport. The staff treated us with the servant's heart that was so gracious and accommodating of our every question and request. The room was delightful though we bought the best economy prepaid reservation that my searches could find. It is perfectly...

Classic, Venetian hotel. Our room was massive. It had a fire place and two small balconies that overlooked the Grand Canal. Way more than we expected. The hotel shows it's age a bit. Chipped paint here and there, but well worth the price for the ambience and the location. Easy walk to Ponte Rialto and Piazza San Marco. Friendly staff...

This is a beautiful hotel in a perfect location. I stayed with my sister & 2 nieces in the Grand Suite overlooking the Grand Canal. Breathtaking view! Breakfast was excellent and the attention of the staff couldn't be beaten. Highly recommended.

We were very happy that we could check in at 9 a.m. as we just got off a train from Vienna. Our grand suite was huge. Everything about the hotel was great except we had a medium-sized ant problem in our room. We came back to our room around 7 p.m. after exploring all day to find ants crawling out...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

“If you want quiet do not get a room on grand canal. Great view but very noisy”
Michaeltx2013, 2 weeks ago | Read review
“We were in room 108 and we had more of a street view than canal view as advertised. We only saw a small portion of the canal from our room. However, go up to the rooftop terrace for the best views of the canal!”
R7124OIjasonr, Apr 15, 2017 | Read review
“If you are traveling by train, it is worthwhile to get a Vaporetto (water taxi) pass. You can take the Vaporetto from the train station to the stop at Ca d'Or which is just around the corner from the hotel. The Vaporetto is much easier way to get to the hotel instead of carrying suitcase on the cobblestones and up/down bridges. ”
