The canal-front location in Canareggio is lovely, but otherwise the Foscari Palace is quite ordinary. Service was unfriendly, the room was fine but the bathroom very tight and outdated, and the a/c was either on or off--no attempts to adjust it made a difference in temperature of the room. The kicker is that the price made it a poor value... More

The hotel is wonderfully located on the Grand Canal - where better to stay in Venice! Good value for money too. It's close to everything on foot and has its own water entrance too for those who want to travel around Venice in the traditional manner.

We arrived at the Foscari Palace by water taxi, quite special in itself. The opulence of the marble floors and woodwork made it feel special. Our room on the 3rd floor had a huge bed and a grand bathroom (a little tired but non the less special). Continental breakfast was included in the price and the choice was extensive. The... More

I would reccomend this hotel to anyone travelling to Venice. Easy to get to and a superior hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Water taxi was a couple of minutes walk from it and also right next to it you could get a gondola.

A little bit disappointed that they put us in a room with the handicapped bathroom (Room 104), which made the shower pretty cramped and an eyesore, but they offer a free trip out to Murano Island on a taxi in the mornings, and a tasty free breakfast. The staff was for the most part helpful and kind as well. Also... More

Perfect location, on the Grand Canal, right next to Gondola stop & Traghettos (local's gondolas) for crossing the Grand Canal. We had a rooftop dinner offered to us & were the only ones which suited us perfectly, as downstairs was full, followed by a free, wonderful sunset canal boat trip for 40 minutes. Our apartment overlooked the canal & had... More

We had the Junior Suite for three days. Great view and surprisingly quite nights with the double-paned floor windows. The white-washed furniture is rather plain for Venice and not a luxurious feel, but we did not spent too much time in the room except for sleeping, and most of the time we did spend in the room we spend enjoying... Hotel is old. No tea making or kettle in rooms. Worst shower in Europe, its in a bath with a leaking door, bathroom floods. Room smelt musty and air stale. No help given for tours. Staff smile but do nothing helpful. Poor advice given for travel to Airport. Found our own way around asking other visiting tourists.Great breakfast with lots of... More

The pefect place to stay in Venice. Location, rooms and staff can't be beat. Large rooms and huge bathroom. Staff also arranged a four course gourmet dinner and private cruise on Grand Canal for us both for less than $100 Euros total. Excellent value!!!

The room was clean and we had a good view to grand canal. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Considering the location and the time, the room rate was reasonable. I would stay in this hotel again.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
