Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

This place is just a quick couple of minutes walk from a water stop. When we landed in Venice we took the water bus from the vaporetto, a water stop as it is called in Italian which is just opposite the railway station. It is the third stop from the railway station. Hence very convenient. Though we had two pieces of luggage each, walking to this guesthouse was not a big challenge considering that it is very close to the water stop. The elevator is actually a very old one. We have to keep pressing the button till we reach our respective floor. It was a bit scary the first time although the receptionist assured us that it is quite safe. The windows of our quadruple room overlooked the canals. Quite a nice view. The church bells ring out in the mornings. Breakfast is a simple affair. Nothing much to write home about. The bathtub doubled up as a shower cubicle. Better this way than having small shower cubicles. Some of the staff were helpful. But one or two were a bit curt. I recommend this place to prospective tourists for its sheer convenience.

We stayed here for 2 nights prior to our cruise, we chose this hotel because of its close location to the water bus, so we didn't have to drag our luggage far. The hotel is very Venetian, with large clean rooms. I loved the location, within 2 minutes walk were lots of bars, restaurants and shops. Last time we visited Venice stayed in the San Marco area, I much preferred this area as everywhere was less busy and a little cheaper. San Marco is about 25 minutes walk so not far away. The breakfast was plentiful and the staff would bring you extra coffee if you asked. There was a little noise in a morning and late night from people heading to the water taxi but other then that we had a excellent stay and would definitely return.

This is a place we stayed at several years ago (about 12). Returning .. it is still a great place. It is not super luxurious or modern, but the staff is very friendly, and the fact that you can get a comfy room for four at a reasonable rate in Venice is awesome. It is almost but not quite on the Canale Grande. It is also a bit removed from the main path connecting the railway station to San Marco. This is a good location in many ways: easily accessible but not a place for neither a tourist trap nor a super expensive hotel. We also just like Cannaregio.

Place was a little difficult to find, but once we found it, all was good. A few walking streets away from the action. People were nice, excellent accommodations, and excellent breakfast. Will definitely stay here again.

Location, location, location! This Hotel is right next to the river bus stop. It is also accessible by foot from the train station if you prefer to get a bit of confidence before using the boat system. It was clean, breakfast was grand and the receptionist was very helpful. The Hotel is right next to the Jewish "Ghetto" which is a must visit.
