We had booked 2 junior suites at the royal San Marco for 4 nights, we found this hotel just fine, modern day google maps makes this very easy. On arrival we were upgraded to their executive suites which in reality is like an apartment with 2 ensuite doubles , sitting room , kitchenette and dinning table. For all there was...

The hotel is literally just off San Marco square, couldn't ask for a better location. The room itself was in very good condition, beautifully decorated and very big! Breakfast was what I expected from a continental in Europe and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. The hotel can be difficult to find, my advice is to research its location...

It's right on the side of San Marcos, very convenient and central location. Lot of restaurants, shops close by. At night you can just walk around San Marcos to enjoy the night time with less traveler. The front desk is helpful and the lobby area is nice and comfortable. Plenty of sofa to rest if you checked out and would...

The hotel is in a great location, a few steps away from St marks sq. Despite reading other reviews , we still found it tricky to find the reception at the San Marco hotel. The entrance is on a small street off the middle of st marks square. The room was fine , not luxurious but clean, large and adequately...

This is a well used hotel and like most things in Venice it is not new and modern like travelers are used to because of how everything was originally built on a swamp. So there is a lot of decomposition going on around the city. We asked for tea and coffee making facilities for the three of us and got...

Let's start with the location. Superb 50 metre walk to St Marks Square. We stayed here some 8 years ago and nothing has been done to the rooms and the public rooms since then. It is all looking a bit tired. We had a 6 bed apartment which was not cheap and we were disappointed with the standard of it....

Spent 4 nights here in May 2016. Great location, a couple of minutes of St Marks Square. We had a one bed suite, spacious room with a lovely sitting area, comfortable bed and good bathroom. The room also had a kitchenette area with fridge, hotplate, microwave and kettle. Plenty of cupboard space, the only problem being there as absolutely nothing...

The hotel is part of the San Marco hotel, but seemingly in another tower, inside it may be like a labyrinth but the suites are like small apartments. Well decorated and nice bathrooms. Bed was not too cozy, but works well. Breakfast was regular, nothing fancy...could be better.it is very well located next to San Marco piazza..... Service is friendly...

Our travel agent picked this one for us and it was a great choice for our one night in Venice to attend a performance at Musica a Palazzo. HOWEVER, be warned that the address given on the website or the confirmation email is not how you enter the hotel! You check in at Hotel Royal San Marco which is located...

We opted for a 2 bedroom suite for 6 adults. The room was very spacious and had 2 bathrooms! Like other hotels in Venice, the room is victorian style, which I don't particularly care for, but it was clean nonetheless. Great location just seconds from St. Marks Cathedral. Staff was very friendly. All hotels in Venice are expensive, but this...

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
