Was abit apprehensive after reading the reviews. But surprisingly the hotel was very good, it was clean, great location and great staff. There were 4 of us in room 2 4 single beds were made up for us. Beds were comfortable had a good nights sleep. Plenty of bathrooms never had to wait for one to be free. I'd stay... More

The hotel was a bit of a disappointment and did not live up to the pictures on its website. It is hard to find the entrance off the square with a sign hidden under scaffolding. The reception is dark and dank but has a friendly receptionist. The staircase smells of damp and leads up to an attractive dining room where... More

Hotel was at the beginning difficult to find cuz there was some construction around but however when we found it was good. Just few mins walking from Piazza San Marcos.Rooms were clean and also the toilets(we had to share, but they were very well mantained), wifi signal was perfect and also we borrowed for the stay from reception one adaptor for... Hotel appears to be a merging of a number of separate buildings and does not have any lifts so reaching the rooms (second floor+) is difficult with heavy cases, although staff willing to help. Lack of crockery at breakfast interesting but could be improved by supplying plates and glasses rather than serviettes and plastic cups.

we stayed in a room with 1 double bed and private bathroom on 10-12 July. Room was really clean but really really small. If you pay this prive you only get this size of room I suppose. There was no proper cabin in the shower, just curtain. That made the bathroom splashy. Also the window of the room is small... More

The room was clean and the staff were charming and most helpful. However, the mini bar did not work, the table lamp had no socket and therefore did not work, the shower head was at waist height and therefore only usable by a small child and room looked tired.

Stayed for a couple of nights in a suite, what you would expect to be a best room....but it was very disappointing. Facing construction, need urgent update, safe wasn't working, tv just Italian channels. Breakfast was very poor, not a big choice. Way too much money to pay for a very dated hotel. Would I stay here again....definitely no.

we have booked in the hotel San Maurizio based on the photos that are on website, rooms are different in reality. You see something on website different to what you get. And when we asked they said hotel san maurizio and residence san maurizio are two different hotels but in fact it is the same hotel different floors. We were... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
