Even for Venice standards this hotel was a big let down. Although the room was of a good size, the access to the room was very difficult through narrow stairs without any lifts. Wifi is sporadic at best. The entrance to the hotel is very disappointing. Was woken up at 07:57 by the noise of intense drilling and construction work... More

I was very sceptical about this hotel after reading certain reviews on here but it is a typical traditional Venice hotel. Not easy to find but nothing is in Venice! Very pleasant staff very attentive. Really good location. Small rooms and did see a few lizards in the lobby but they were tiny and nothing to worry about. Ignore the... More

On a budget? Pay 10€ more and get another room somewhere else. Don't get me wrong, we had the essentials: bed, shower, wifi. But that's it. Room below average, bathrooms are shared and messy and there was no ac. For 90€, we were hoping for a little more. On the upside we were able to leave our bags there for... More

The staff couldn't be friendlier and the location was perfect but the room was tiny, only just able to walk around the bed. In order to get in and out of the shower you had to stand in a particular spot or the door wouldn't close. Having said all that it was good value.

Felt like we were sleeping in a cardboard box, heard every noise including some Americans next door snoring loudly and people above us having night terrors! As well as next doors shower that felt like the water was coming through the wall....the fire doors were banging and the machine was making a noise that opens the doors with the credit... More

Not the easiest place to find. When we got to Venice my friends and I attempted to use the gps on our cellphone to map our way to the hotel. It ended up taking us to two different locations, both which were not the proper place. We asked many people to assist us along the way and after a long... More

The hotel's front desk staff are friendly and its location excellent. But the positives stopped there. The windows of Room no 3, which I stayed in, were not double glazed, and with just a small heater in the room, we had to endure 3 nights of freezing temperatures.

I have been writing reviews on trip advisor for a few years now and this is the first bad review I have written. My husband (who was born in Italy), and I traveled to Rome, Florence, Venice this past trip and the only hotel I had a problem with was Hotel San Maurizio. We arrived exactly at check in time... Great Stay here albeit only for 2 Nights, we were upgraded on arrival as they had overbooked at No extra charge, bigger room, bigger Bed and the room was elegantly decorated. As said in the title that this Accom is a short walk to piazza San Marco, The Tourist Heart of Venice and very close to Sant Angelo water Bus... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
