We were on 1 day/1 night trip Venice, coming from France. We arrived late at La Forcola, after we skiped check-in on our previously booked accommodation, due to some misunderstandings with the owner. We were greeted at the reception by an inexperienced female receptionist, but very kind. We asked her if we can compensate the cost of the room, with...

This hotel is everything you need for a base in Venice. The value for money is good and we found it considerably cheaper here than other nearby hotels. The hotel is 1min walk to shops, bars, and restaurants, as well a gondola stops. It's also a 15min walk to major sights of venice. Breakfast is simple, but nice and well...

I stayed in the hotel from 11 to 15 March 2016. My original plan was to stay near the centre but by shopping around I came across the La Forcola and saved myself some money because of it. Arriving by train you have a roughly 10 - 15 minute walk from the station. It's not that far at all and...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
