The hotel is in an excellent location with lots of restaurants around (except the one right below the hotel which has bad service, bad food and they overcharge) there are several "pubs" around it too. The distance from and to Saint Marks's Square is great, not very long walk and if you can catch the vaporetto quite quickly from Arsenale...

Arriving... at the hotel was easy as its right by Arsenale boat stop, we were greeted at reception by a lovely man who was very polite and quickly checked us in. It took us over an hour by boat from the airport so upon arrival, we were freezing but the hotel did not dissapoint and was very warm, as was...

We went as a couple for a cheap getaway with some couple friends of ours. We were after a good location to get into marco polo square and the main routes around venice. This hotel allowed us to do just this but not break the bank. Within less than 10 mins walk we were there. We stopped at the Arsenale...

This hotel is about a 10-15 walk from St. Mark's Square - the location of the hotel is on a quiet, wide street that has several restaurants and is right on the lagoon. Great views when you step outside! It is easily accessible from where the water taxi will drop you off - there are two bridges to go over,...

First of all: great location. For the rest less than average rather poor. Bathroom with mould over the shower, along the shower, non-functioning towel-radiator. Extremely stiff beds and flat pillows. Wi-Fi not working in our room. English-speaking channels on TV hardly visible. Stained bed-covers, chairs and sofa. The place needs a thorough remake!

We stayed here 3 nights and the location is just perfect! Right on the grand canal. A 5-10 minute walk from the main attractions and a wide range of restaurants on your door step! The staff are friendly and helpful with any questions we had. The hotel also has its own private dock and its cost €110 to the airport....

We stayed in Ca' Formenta several years ago and naturally, when planning a return visit to Venice, we booked a 3 night stay. It was a very good decision! The staff is exceedingly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was simple but filling. The rooms remain pretty much as they were several years ago and many have great views of the Grand...

This was the second time we staid at Ca'Formenta. As many clients could have already said, it is very comfortable; the people are friendly, they do speak a very good English, they know the place and can be of good advice re restaurants, excursions, museums.Early bird will enjoy breakfast outside, watching true Venitians living and walking in this area. We...

Our three night stay here was brilliant; the staff speak excellent English and were always very helpful. The location, by the Via Garibaldi and close to Vaporetto stops as well as St Mark's Square, couldn't be bettered. It was quiet without being too far away from the main sights of Venice. It was my birthday while we were there and...

The hotel is pleasant and is only a ten minute walk from St Marks square which is fantastic when it is ridiculously hot! Our room was okay, a bit old fashioned but nothing I wouldn't expect. The negatives of the rooms are that the showers are tiny, we both struggled to have more than a 5 minute shower as it...

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
