One of Italy’s most enchanting secrets, San Clemente Palace is a city resort located on its own island in the Venice lagoon, just 10 minutes from San Marco Square via the hotel’s complimentary boats. A tranquil sanctuary on the doorstep of Venice, San Clemente Palace Kempinski is one of Italy’s most enchanting secrets. The stately resort immerses guests in the drama, glamour, and heritage of Venice. The 900-year-old landmark property is comprised of a series of beautifully restored monastery buildings, as well as a 12th-century chapel, and nearly 15 acres of ancient gardens, courtyards, and terraces boasting breath-taking views of the city on the horizon. San Clemente Palace Kempinski has 29 special and 37 junior suites, and 130 luxury rooms in which Venetian decorations blend with legacy design elements, while typical high Venetian ceilings create a sense of home. San Clemente Suite is selected as the “Europe's Leading Hotel Suite” in 2018. The hotel features three bars and three special restaurants, including a signature restaurant with terraces overlooking the lagoon. Indulge in the restaurants Acquerello and Insieme, offering exceptional interpretations of iconic Italian and Venetian specialities, whereas Buddha-Bar Beach Restaurant & Pool Bar features a unique culinary experience that combines the signature dishes of the famous neo-Asian Buddha-Bar with unique local Italian and Mediterranean dishes and flavours. The unique spa experience offers a luxurious couples suite, and indulgent wet area with sauna, steam bath and showers, together with a hair salon. The hotel’s heated outdoor swimming pool is the ideal location for a refreshing break during the entire season. The hotel also features a great range of fitness facilities, a 1,500-metre jogging path through the centuries-old park, the pitch-and-putt course, and the tennis court.

Nestled amidst enchanting gardens, the San Clemente Palace Kempinski Venice offers a peaceful retreat with rooms celebrated for their spaciousness and historical allure. Guests frequently commend the hotel's cleanliness and luxurious ambiance, creating a serene haven that's meticulously maintained. While the attentive service garners appreciation, some visitors have noted occasional delays and unexpected fees, particularly regarding breakfast. Despite the tranquil location being a hit among those seeking romance, the value perception is somewhat tarnished by the pricey food and beverage options.

Just completed 3 nights at the hotel as part of a package ahead of a cruise. The hotel is a large, grand hotel set on a private Island with plenty of space.

The plus points are:

The space and grounds, including pool and plenty of outside shaded seating overlooking the lagoon.

Breakfast was excellent, always plenty to eat and the staff were wonderful at Breakfast.

The “included” (nothing is free) transfer to St Marks square was great fun and always had plenty of space when we travelled across. We noted two boats in use at busy times, which we avoided.

Overall, the staff were very friendly and professional. Normal niggles, like card machine/Wi-Fi not working at check in were dealt with a smile, so was not an issue.

Room was not ready on arrival (as expected for a 1:00pm arrival) but a phone call at 2:40 to indicate room was ready was appreciated.

The negative points:

This is an expensive hotel, in an expensive city. So there is no surprise that food and drink is (very) expensive. We chose to eat over in Venice rather than the hotel, with other guests commenting that the food in the main restaurant was good but not worth the expense.

Other reviews mention service around the pool area but we noted a very attentive waitress who was always on the look out for drinks orders.

The complimentary soft drinks in the room mini bar were welcome as this saved quite a lot in drinks around the pool.

As it was a package deal we were allocated the cheapest room but it was fine for how long we were in the room. Out during the day, exhausted at night! The bedroom, dressing room and bathroom were all in good order with the Kempinski extras you would expect.

In summary I would recommend this hotel, decide beforehand whether you are happy with the cost of the F&B, and make plans accordingly. The location, grounds, artwork and grand feel of the hotel makes the visit worthwhile.

My wife and I have just returned from this beautiful hotel which occupies its own island 10 minutes water shuttle from San Marco. As with most of not all hotels in Venice, the exterior of these building do not catch the eye, but do not be fooled, inside you will find beauty and refinement that is breathtaking. The San Clemente Kempinski is a magnificently spacious hotel and our Grand Deluxe room with both lagoon and garden views did not disappoint. Every member of staff you encounter is friendly welcoming and professional and nothing is too much trouble. All Covid 19 protocols are in place with mask wearing staff and all but a minority of guests observing the mask rule both indoors and outdoors. Of course you expect to pay for these services so the prices of food and drink are high - but well worth it in our opinion. The aforementioned courtesy private water shuttle runs to and from SAN Marco every 40 minutes and literally pops you across the water, to enjoy the sights of Venice city with its many many shops, literally at every turn. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be back soon.

We booked for a night at this really wonderful, quit and charming place and we like it really, Wonderful garden, nice rooms, sundowner in the garden. Really good, But the prices are incredible high for this time of season in October. The pool was closed, the spa was closed, only the breakfast-room (the same room is also the dining-room) was opened. the service friendly but still in training. For our opinion, at this time they could do much better at this price-level.

The hotel is situated on its own island about 15 minutes boat ride from St Marks Square. The island, buildings and church are all beautiful, and the gardens very relaxing. The accommodation, food and drinks are all very expensive 5 star prices. The standard of service and food is however very much 3 star and in no way consistent with the prices charged. Our room was sometimes made up properly, with consumables replaced and sometimes not. Food was served in small quantities at very high prices. There were some utterly charmless waitresses of eastern European origin, whereas the Italian people were very friendly and charming. The hotel is being failed by poor management that seem unable to pull it back to where it once was. As it stands now it is simply not worth the money and my recommendation is to give it a wide berth.

The hotel is a magnificent building in beautiful grounds, similar to a stately home in the UK. But sadly that is where the good points of this hotel end.

Approximately 40 people in our Imagine Cruising group

arrived at the hotel mid morning. The check in process took ages and could have been organised so much more efficiently. Then it transpired that our rooms would not be ready until 3pm. Whilst I appreciate that hotels have to clean rooms after guests have left, it is inconceivable
that not one room was ready before that time. For example, two guests were told at 2.55pm that the room would not be ready for another 5 minutes. It is as though availability of the rooms was from 3 pm and they were
going to stick to that, come what may! So this left 40 people (some with mobility and/or health issues) idling around, waiting for about 4-5hrs. We were not offered anything, not even a glass of water, during this time. Most people were very annoyed at the lack or organisation
and demanded to speak to a manager, but none had the decency to come to speak to us, leaving the 3 young ladies on reception to take all the flack. We eventually got our room at 3.25pm.

The next issue is food and drink. The hotel obviously aims to attract discerning and wealthy guests, because the price of food and drink here is ridiculously high. 7€ for a soft drink, 18€ for a glass of wine and the main courses in the restaurant start at 48€. ( I believe one couple decided to eat here and said they weren't impressed with the quality of the food at all). So if you are on a limited
budget you need to take the shuttle boat to the main part of Venice, which again was not easy for those with limited mobility. I am surprised that given that the hotel had an almost captive audience of 40 people, that they did not arrange a reasonably priced table d'hote menu which I
am sure would have been taken up by a lot of the group.

Breakfast is mediocre, the sun beds around the pool have cushions which slide off the moment you sit on them and the pool bar restaurant apparently serves food, but I
never caught a glimpse of a menu.

I would certainly not choose this hotel if I go back to Venice. There must be other 5* hotels which may not have the same setting, but do offer good quality and service at a better price.

We booked this hotel resort knowing it was further away from the main San Marco square but was advertised with having multiple restaurants/dining options, a swimming pool, kids club and many other points that appealed to us since we were travelling with a 3 year old. However there was only one restaurant open and 1 bar offering a few limited lunch options. We ordered room service one evening as the weather was bad and the one available restaurant was fully booked, and the food options were the same as what was available from the bar. No pizza on any of the menus, instead the options were "selection of cheeses" or "club Sandwich".
When we arrived, there were no welcome drinks offered. Our room wasn't ready which was fair enough since check in was at 3pm and we arrived at 12:30pm, so we sat down for lunch. No one came to our table to take our order although the family on the table next to us had someone come over to take their order so I went to the bar to order. The swimming pool opened on our last day there although this was not made clear on their website at the time of our booking and there was no kids club!!!! Our mini bar wasn't refreshed after the first day so we made a point of this to the house keeper and suddenly every evening we had ample drinks refreshed. The good things about this hotel was the free shuttle boats to San Marco every 40 minutes, the free excursion to a Murano glass factory and the cleanliness. The hotel staff also acknowledged our disappointment so gave us a free bottle of champagne and a later check out time for free after we requested for this. Breakfast was ok... On my first morning, the fruit bowls were empty, and on the second morning, no strawberries and on the third morning many options had run out. We have travelled to many 5 star resorts and we now have expectations. This resort did not meet our expectation and we ultimately will never stay at a Kempinski hotel again. There were many unhappy guests at the time of our stay ... We overheard many people complaining about their experiences during their stay.

We stayed at the Kempinski in 2 rooms and while the grounds and interior of the hotel and church are beautiful, the rooms were not much. For almost 1K per n ight, I would expect that showers would be free of mold and carpets would be cleaner. In addition, we were placed directly over a huge party that was incredibly loud and that did not wind up until after midnight. We were catching at flight at 6am. It is fine to host parties with bands but 1) don't put guests that are not included in the event directly over the event 2) don't allow loud speakers in a tiny courtyard. It just wasnt necessary. 3) tell the truth about the event hours and/or move the guests that are not getting what they paid for- sleep! Never an apology or acknowledgement at all even though we called multiple times. Stay on the mainland- it is easier to tour the city without waiting for a shuttle and you wont feel like a prisoner to super expensive soft drinks and food.

my wife and I decided to book 4 days at the hotel San Clemente Kempinski.
we chose this hotel because it was located on a private island, its history and the luxury it offers.
we arrived at the airport and the shuttle boat from the hotel arrived on time. the boat trip to the hotel was very joyful.
when we arrived, the concierge (Marco) welcomed us with a big smile. we felt immediately at home.
the check in was quick and efficient.
we had chosen the navigante suite, which is spacious, luxurious and offers a very beautiful view over the lagoon. really breathtaking !
As a surprise for my wife, I booked a private romantic dinner at the top location on the island where you can enjoy a fantastic sunset.
the dinner was excellent and our waiter, Simona, was very kind, professional.and discrete.
the next day, we visited Venice. while waiting for the shuttle boat, we had a talk with Matteo (a member of the concierge team), who showed real interest in what we would like to do in Venice. He gave us a private invitation to the tudeski foundation where we had a fantastic breathtaking rooftop view over the city !!!! THANK YOU Matteo !
the next day, we went on a tour, organised by the hotel, to visit Murano, Burano and Torcello. Again, everything was perfectly organised. a private taxi boat brought us to the different islands.
We were invited to the Murano glass factory Venier. We could see how these sculptures are made and we got a tour of the showrooms by the sales manager Eugenio.
After that, we visited Burano which is famous because of the production of lace. we visited a lace factory and got here too a private tour. We would also visit Torcello but there was no time as we didn't see the time passing so fast in Murano and Burano !
we booked 2 evenings at the Aquarello restaurant, which is located at the pier and which offers also a fantastic view of the lagoon ! combine this with excellent food and outstanding prosecco and you've the best dining experience ever !
we would like to thank the staff, especially Marco, Matteo, Simona and the lady in red (who organised the private romantic dinner) for their genuine interest in what we expected from this trip, and who did their utmost to fulfill our wishes ! we will certainly come back and again enjoy living life the Italian way !!!!

My family and I visited San Clemente as our first trip in the post-COVID era. Our pandemic-birthed fears were eased upon arrival as the staff pride themselves on their commitment to keeping San Clemente clean and safe for all their guests. While I thoroughly enjoyed every square inch of this amazing property, one space remains my absolute favorite—the bar! The amazing manager/bartender, Costi, has created a truly fantastic bar. On display is the perfect balance between friendliness and professionalism; the bar was somewhere you could go for some great entertainment as well as a great drink. I would highly recommend anyone considering a stay at San Clemente to book a room there as soon as possible.

The new owner closed most of the restaurants allowing only a small percentage of customers to dine at the hotel. You are isolated in an island with poor shuttle service and long queues to get into the boats that take you to and from San Marco to the hotel. Only 30 people are aloud in each boat in a hotel of almost 200 rooms and they come every 40 minutes meaning that if you are not part of the 30 lucky people you will have to pay for a private taxi (when you’ve already paid for the hotel’s transportation fees). Beautiful place with beautiful gardens but clearly undermanaged.

Lots of question in one short paragraph, so I'll try to answer some: The complimentary water taxi runs every 30-40 minutes from around 9AM to just after midnight 7 days a week and takes 10 minutes each way. If the complimentary boat is full andvthere are guests still queuing, the skipper orders a local water taxi to pick up the remaing guests, instead of you having to wait another 30-40 minutes. Yes, the pool will still be warm in September, but depends on your expectations. If you are used to the Carribean in September, it will be chilly. If you're used to northern Europe, it will be warm. We have stayed in rooms with queen sized and king sized beds, but to guarantee a king sized I suggest you look at their website or contact the hotel directly. A fabulous hotel to escape the hustle and bustle, noise and crowds of Venice, to an oasis of luxury, peace and tranquility .

The only way to St Clemente Kempinski Hotel is a water taxi, because the hotel is located in a small island. In Venice you moove on the feet or by water taxi. There is no cars in Venice :)
