We had booked (and paid) in advance before seeing some of the poor reviews on TripAdvisor, so we were anxious about what we would find when we arrived. But we were pleasantly surprised that our double room was large, the bathroom was clean and the breakfasts at 6 euros each were better and cost less than elsewhere locally. Nothing in... More

Stayed for two nights-awful! No,lifts and put on the fourth floor! Rooms very tiny and nothing works. GOd help us if there was a fire! Shower didn't work, tv not working, breakfast was awful . Only good thing was it was close to San Zacceria water bus stop. Lucky that Venice is such a beautiful place as it took our... More

First off. This hotel is in prime location. But to get to it. You'll hv to go through a dark nasty looking alley, no elevator, fridge that doesn't work. Breakfast was the pits. Old furniture laying around blocking entrance to this hell hole of a room that Air Transat book for us. Bottom line. RUN if u hear this hotel... More

Hotel Lux main building (the one with the lobby), room 404. I'm pretty sure we found bed bugs. See photos. First night husband and I each had a spot of blood on our pillow. Second night I thought I brushed an ant off my arm (they also had tiny ants on the floor). Third night was the earthquake in Italy,... More

We are not experts on visiting Venice, however it is clear that location is everything. This hotel is ideally situated, but rooms are small and dark, breakfast is far from great, and breakfast tables so poky they are almost unusable. However, we think that this is what visiting Venice is about, Location is great, just accept that you will be... More

Found this hotel to have very friendly staff, hotel had no lifts which we struggled with due to the amount of luggage, most hotels in Venice done have elevators, we managed to store most of our luggage in the storage area, sites were close by and room was very basic. Would recommend for story stays in Venice.

First of all, it's inadmissible that in the present there are hotels without free internet ... Although the staff was very friendly the rooms was dirty, the smell is terrible and have no conditions for a 3 star hotel.. the breakfast is very weak, in a general view I'm very disappointed in the experience

In my opinion, the only positive aspect was the receptionist, she was really nice and helpful and the location of the hotel. About the hotel, I don't recommend it. The rooms are dirty, have some bugs, the toilet sometimes don't work, the air conditioner doesn't stop so at night is too cold, the breakfast room only have 4 tables so... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
