Visited the Castello based on recommendation, the location is great, less than 5 minutes from the bridge of sighs and St Marks. The Hotel on my arrival had messed up the beds having asked for two singles, the reception asked the porter to separate the beds, the porter asked the receptionist begrudgingly in Italian if we had booked singles, I... This was a lovely little place to stay in Venice. Very clean ,rooms very small but you only sleep in them as there is so much to see and do in Venice so don't let that put you off. Breakfast supplied in booking and was also nice enough nothing special but nice enough.

It was average. Hotel staff was nice and helpful. Breakfast was less than average. Room 105 was dark and small, you couldn't open the window because it was very noisy from the early morning. I picked the place because of the location, may be will stay again if can't find anything better.

Great little hotel in a really convenient spot in the heart of Venice - right by St Mark's square. Very clean, airconditioned rooms and very quiet. The hotel has lovely staff and the breakfast on offer was a nice start to the day each morning. The hotel also has a roof top terrace open to all guests also. Would definitely... More

For a place to sleep it's not so bad. Certainly would not stay here again. Looks to be better choices in the vicinity. Staff do not seem very happy (except some staff at breakfast). Rooms are very small, dated, bit smelly and the bathroom was ok. BUT our shower water would go scalding hot and freezing cold at random times.... More

Hotel is in a fab location for the sights. A few minutes from St Marc's square and the main prom. Hotel has no lift but cases were taken to the room for us. Room was tiny and dated but quirky decor which seems to suit Venice and it's old buildings. We had continental breakfast which was ok. Croissants and jame... More

This has got to be one of the best looking vintage hotels I have ever seen! Its exactly what I envisioned being in Italy! Service was great and the complementary breakfast was perfect. Very reasonably priced as we stayed for two nights. I was tickled pink to get to see an actual Bidet!!! I am from the States so we... More

The location of the hotel is excellent - in a quiet spot but so close to San Marco and the S.Zacherria water bus stop. There is a lovely spot to eat within a 2 min walk even late at night. The hotel is a bit old (probably in need of refurbishment) and the rooms are small but for the standards... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
