First thing to know about this hotel is that you have to check-in not here but at Hotel Leonardo (Calle della Masena, 1385, 30121 Cannaregio). Then this is a short walk to a small alley off Fondamenta Misericordia. For me Cannaregio is the best area of Venice, relatively free of tourists and real Venetians frequent the ample great bars and... More

This hotel is situated in a quieter part of Venice and while its position at the back of a courtyard makes it a little bit difficult to find, it is also very quiet. Also the area has quite a lot of nice restaurants. The room was simple but very clean. The staff is only around in the morning: if you... More

Antica Raffineria is an adequate B&B in the Canneregio district. The room is clean if a little basic, with a reasonable shower room. The bed was rather uncomfortable and there was only one pillow each, but for the price it was OK.

The staff were friendly and the room was clean. The location was very calm. 20 minutes by foot to Rialto and 30 minutes to St Mark's SquareTheres some canal and several bridges right next to the hotel. Looks pretty and very Venice. Perfect hotel would recommend to anyone especially beause the price was so good.

We finally find this BB but it was closed and the office were dark and empty. After a number of phone calls a very nice men came and explained that check in should be done at another hotel in the neighbourhood. Ok- a bad start but the room was large and clean as well as the bathroom. Antica Raffineria is... More

The instruction is not clear when check in. Arriving in the hotel, i should check in to the other hotel , of which it was not informed before. I have to wait 30 minutes for the officer who come to pick up and open the the gate

In the Jewish ghetto, this old refinery offers a calm stay, but a little expensive for what it offers. The furniture is old, but the room is clean, except for the shower which was “portrayed” with mold at the joints. The windows are very small so the room is quite dark. Nonetheless, the owner is very friendly, he offered us... More

Don't expect luxury, it is like a converted house, seperated with partitions, situated in the Cannareggio area. However for the price you pay, it's excellent. The owner is charming and outgoing, he even came to meet us as soon as we arrived, then accompanied us all the way to the 'hotel', handed us a map and drew the way to... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
