We arrive at airone hotel and then we saw a sign telling us to go to another hotel nearby for the reception.. this was not a big deal for us we managed the situation in no time, but this was not quite obvious for a couple that we met that was lost for about 15min before understanding the situation. So... More

We visited Venice as part of a Europe wide trip. I've only given one star as I can't select zero. The only, and truthfully only positive in this accommodation is the location, right on the grand canal and a very short walk to both Venezia St. Lucia train station and the bus station. That is honestly where the positive aspects... More

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights mid June. The best part about this place is its location. It is a short walk from the main train station which saved us navigating ourselves and our luggage through the streets of Venice to somewhere across town (there are many stairs and crowds of tourists so the location was a... First and foremost Hotel Airone does't have a reception desk, you will have to go to Hotel Canal to check in which is quite confusing. Secondly, the rooms are not clean, smells horrible and too tiny bathrooms. I should not forget to mention the fact that they didn't have a bath mat. The shower curtain stings and was not long... I would like to caution others from staying at this hotel. The hotel room that was assigned to us was overridden with bed bugs. The bugs were everywhere - on the walls, bed, fabric headboard of the bed etc. Re-accommodations had to be made elsewhere, in the middle of the night, and it was a night of very little sleep.... I would not recommend to stay here, smelt bad, there was wires hanging out of plugs, didn't feel safe at all. Just a horrible experience! The hotel doesn't actually have a check in desk, and the staff were very unhelpful.

Having read previous reviews about this hotel, i was not sure what to expect.....well it was a shock when we arrived. We went up some steep creaky stairs to be hit by a smell that can only be described as strong disinfectant alcohol. Then we entered our room which can only be described as dark and dingy with holes in... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
