Stayed for 3 nights at this great hotel in a perfect location on the Grand Canal. Comfortable rooms and very helpful staff. A really nice bar overlooking the canal and (weather permitting) seats outside to watch the world go by. The vaparetto and the Alilaguna airport shuttle stop right next to the hotel so no dragging suitcases across San Marco...

It was indeed on my husband's bucket list to stay on the Grand Canal in Venice and this hotel came through in a big way. We decided to arrive by water taxi to the hotel's private dock--a splurge I know but it was certainly in keeping with the hotel's old world elegance as it turns out. We had reserved a...

I spent a lot of time choosing a hotel in Venice at the end of a three week visit to Italy. Here are the reasons I decided upon the Palazzo Sant'Angelo sul Canal Grande, or just the Sant'Angelo as I'll call it in the rest of this post. I'm pretty sure you'll agree that I made the right call. Venice...

I did a lot of research before opting for the Palazzo Sant'Angelo and in no way was I disappointed. Its location is perfect, close enough to San Marco and The Rialto but away from the crazy crowds. If you can get a private taxi from the airport. Its a very special experience and a great introduction to the city. However...

Venice was our last stop on a 4 week holiday in Italy and we were really looking forward to staying in this hotel. The hotel is located a short 15 minute walk to the busy Rialto area and we enjoyed getting lost in the alleyways. The hotel was clean and the rooms adequate. Downside... the hotel and in particular our...

Bit of a treat. Two nights where we were looked after in Venice, lovely staff, smashing breakfast, the most comfortable room. Super bar tho rather expensive, I guess you're playing for one of the most stunning views.

Wonderful location on the canal with private dock for water taxis. Away from the hustle and crowds of St Marks and Rialto but a short walk to both. Lobby bar has tables on the canal which was lovely for a late drink before bed. Wonderful breakfast included with the room. The hot water took awhile in the shower and sink...

We stayed at the Palazzo Sant'Angelo for a weekend in October 2016. We wanted to be near Saint Mark's Square but not too close. The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from St Mark's. The Palazzo is located right on the canal, so when you arrive in your vaporetto (water taxi), it's quite picturesque. The hotel is right on...

This was our second visit to Venice but the first to this hotel. We were welcomed warmly and thereafter the staff were friendly, efficient and helpful at all turns. They managed to rent a crutch for me within hours of arriving (mine had shed its rubber foot) which was a great help. The room was spacious, calm and very comfortable,...

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
