Locanda Silva is a wonderful hotel that has that 'family' feeling. All the staff are so helpful and make you feel at home. The Hotel is on a less busy canal, which is perfect because you have the ambiance of the canals without all the tourist activity! It was a little difficult finding the hotel due to all the alleys,... This hotel is your fairly average family run Italian hotel. They are warm, friendly and welcoming. Some of the decor in the hotel is a little tired but our room was clean, bright, airy and modern with none of the tiredness of the corridors (I was a little worried at first). The location is what makes this hotel. It's just... More

Just a few blocks from the craziness of San Marco, this hotel is on a quiet side alley overlooking a canal & pretty bridge. We were able to make quick stops at our room to drop off packages or refresh. Rooms are modern & clean. Ours had a private bath. Breakfast was simple, but good w/yummy coffee.

Price was right, location even better, just a few short blocks from Piazza San Marco. Our room for 3 was plain, but we were only there for sleeping, so served its purpose. Breakfasts were ample, saving us pricier lunch choices while out sightseeing. Friendly staff.

We stayed here at the end of April 2016 and we couldn't have asked for a better stay, It was easy to find (we used google maps as Venice is full of little streets) and we were very impressed with our room. We had an ensuite which we didn't expect and there was a little area to go and sit... More

Lovely welcome and the location is perfect. Four minutes from St Marks Square. The rooms are basic but clean. Breakfast continental but plenty of it. Helpful staff and a wonderful canal view from room one. Beware of mosquitos because of canal side location. Would definitely stay there again.

I wanted a budget centrall place in Venezia for my 2 nights stay on my own. The location was far better than expected, the bathroom outside the room was new, and the shabby taste of the 80' s in the room and the rest as presented at the site, and expected. Nice staff, good breakfast for Italy (and me, but... More

For this pice and stars this hotel is perfect! The location is top- in the center of the city. But a little bit far away from the main statin ( from which you can reach the airoport). The room is clean and not so small as I thought. The view is to a canal😍 the breakfast is quite normal, but... More

We visited Venice in September 2015 and booked the hotel for 2 nights. It was a perfect place to stay, near all the city's attractions. Walking distance to the Piazza San Marco, Bridge of Sighs and Doge's Palace. Lots and lots of places for both casual and fine dining. Our breakfast was included in the price. It was not a... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
