The room was clean and dated but the big problem is the AC has no thermostat. They turn it on and not very cool. A good ceiling fan would have been much more effective. The location is good but they could do a better job of giving directions.

Great location. The first night we got there and the reservation was only for 4 and we are 5. They night attendant would not allow all 5 of us to stay! Had to get a second room at a different hotel which cost me $500 euros! The next day we talked to the manager and his wife and they fixed... More

Good location between saint Marc's square and Rialto. Upon arrival the receptionist was a little brash but warmed up after a while. Room was dated and the bathroom had no shower curtail so the floor got very wet each time. No curtains meant an early start. THe stairs are a killer. No lift or help with luggage. Breakfast is basic... More

My husband and I spent 4 days in Venice, and absolutely fell in love with this city! Franco, the owner of L'Alboro, greeted us with enthusiasm and had great ideas of what sights are worth seeing and which are tourist traps. My husband and I enjoy more natural and historical sights, and if you know where to look you can... More

Very good location in a nuce area of venice. Sadly the staff are very rude and unfriendly, which really lets the place down - it makes it a very unpleasant place to visit. I'm not sure that I've ever met such a rude receptionist!

Horrible, absolutely the worst service ever received. The gentleman at the front was very disrespectful, rude, and insulting when asked even a simple question, such as directions. Do not ever go to this hotel!!!!

We walked into the lobby to meet friends that were staying at the hotel. As soon as we walked in the first thing the reception clerk said was. Please go!!! So we walked out and decided there is no way we would stay in an establishment that was so unfriendly without first finding out our purpose.

The front staff, Franco especially, were extremely helpful and spent time explaining the ins and outs of the city. The hotel was well looked after however, the bathroom could have done with a little modernising. The room was really spacious and the window opened right out onto the canal, which was nice. The decor was reminiscent of my grandmother's bedroom... More

Very conveniently located, 10 minutes to San Marco square. A quiet location but the hotel is close to the San Angelo water stop which means all pedestrians need to walk past to connect with other parts. Very annoying if you are a light sleeper as the trolley bags make a horrible noise on the flagstones. Try and avoid rooms 1-4... More

Close to the Valporetto station Hotel de l'Alboro is a nice hotel in a very good location. The walk to San Marco takes about 10 minutes. The staff was more than friendly, the view more than attractive, and rooms are comfortable, although not luxurious, and the innkeepers are very polite and helpful. Prices for Venice are reasonable.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
